Dumb questions

I have a Van w 6 - 6x8 speakers....I replaced the front with Alpine R 5.25 components... & replaced the rest with new 6x8s ...I replaced the head with a 7897... It's better, but still not great... I haven't added a sub yet, but will soon because the bass is making the rear speakers sound like mush ...I haven't tried to tweak the EQ yet because I'm wondering a couple things....do bass blockers work or are they a gimmicky fix?... is a 5 channel amp an OK option or could I keep the 7897 powering everything but the sub & get a simple amp for the sub? I listen to old stuff mainly like Steely Dan...etc..so I don't need killer bass just decent base with everything else just tightened up...I just want it to sound as good as I remember it did & as good as it does still on vinyl...any clues would be great...

you need to amplify your speakers, no headunit has enough power for speakers to sound good. Well, not good speakers anyway

dragnix, instead of opening a new thread, do you think you could get away with just amplifying the front speakers, in a very small cab.

I find myself in a similar situation.

thats what most do, most people run component speakers in the front, and the rear speakers (rearfill) right off the headunit. most of us dont care about rear speakers because we dont sit back there.

Whats the different between a "Component System" and a "Speaker"

I think I decided on a Cadence TXA-6004

600 x 2 @ 4 Ohm, power my front Alpine Type-R (are these speakers, or components?) and a Alpine Type-R sub.

does that sound like an ok idea?

read that, and dont plan on running your speaker/component amp with your subs, you will loose all tuning capabilities and you wont have enough power for that sub

meaning that that would only be good bridged to amplify two subs?

So buy a mono channel amp and a multi-channel amp to power speakers and sub?

mono for sub, 2 or 4 channel for speakers depending on how many you are pushing. for just the fronts a 2 channel

thanks for all the help. Im kinda in a stump now that I cant use the sub and coaxials on the same amp.

I have about 300$ to spend on an amp(s) and a subwoofer, and I think I decided on the Alpine Type-R, leaving me about 180$ to spend on amp(s), any ideas?

start a want to buy thread for a 2 channel and mono amp. say your looking to spend a total of about 180-200$ and you will get some hits, post up what your sub and speaker power ratings are and you will have people who have what you want. the best thing for you to do with your budget is buy used.
