donpisto's '01 Accord Build Log (Alpine, Zapco, TC Sounds)

Haha, I've heard it's gotten much smaller there since I've gone, which was maybe 8 years ago or so.

I got a black top. As for sealed vs. ported, not sure if I get 3.5 net ported, I can maybe do 3 cubes ported, but might be closer to 2.5 ported, plus I'd like to tune lower, probably closer to 30 Hz. Reason why I was going to go with sealed is because I used to have it in 5 cubes sealed off 3k and it got plenty loud especially with voltage drop down to 11. The lowend, it was just amazing. I actually had Thilo demo up something on LEAP where he compared an enclosure that was 2.5 cubes sealed and 5 cubes sealed and he said it would be pretty much the same, just that with the 5 cubes I'd see about 2 - 3 dB increase in output. IIRC he mentioned with ported it would get a little louder, but it will be peaky. I would love to try ported though, I just don't know if I have the room for it. I think 2.5 ported would be pushing it.

Just started making one of the RCA's and it didn't work. Seems like the pin on the RCA end is not going in. The clear dielectric is very stiff. I have my heat gun in the garage and it's too late to go out. I'm thinking about heating it and then putting the RCA end on, but not sure if that will work. Another idea I have is using a thumbtack and heating the metal portion and pushing it into the dielectric to create a hole and then putting in the RCA end. If neither of these work, I'll have to find some other coaxial cable that has a softer dielectric. The one I currently use for home will work, but it is thin and I will need a couple layers of heat shrink to make up for it. If anyone has any ideas other than the ones I mentioned I'd really appreciate it. I really don't want to buy more wire and let 50' ft. go to waste.

Here's to you actually finishing a setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Btw, how could you only squeeze 2.5 ported out of your car? I always thought accord trunks were bigger than civic trunks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Next week or week after next work?

The official dune park hasn't shrunk significantly since 1984 when it went from 18,000 useable acres down to 1,600.
Hmm, was word of mouth so could never be too sure with that.

Well, in order to keep trunk space I'm pushing the enclosure towards the rear seats and goin to extend it till a lil over half the trunk. I want some trunk space. Before, I've had 5.5 cubes ported but no trunk space.

Nice...makes me want to possibly go to a 15 if I could fit it. Just for those times when you want to blow those tools with their Bahns or Duals away...
Don't always need a large driver for that. It all depends on the install. I used to have a 10" underhung sub in an extremely small box, about .6 or .7 cubes sealed with air leaks of 750w, sub was made for SQ, but got loud, especially for the small box size. I did a 135.7 at 56 Hz with it. I wish the sub hadn't blown, I would have put it in a proper sized enclosure and would like to have seen what it did.

But it sure is nice to have a large woofer, people seem to get amazed by it...especially when they see an 18" in a sedan. Quite funny because I have 15" hub caps.

you should buy my horns to keep up w/ your 18 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
You are selling the horns you currently have in the Camry? Horns would be super sweet, but will have to wait for the next vehicle.
