do you tip on a take out order at a restaraunt?

From what i saw in the short amount of time i worked in the nightclub, it wasnt an honest number. I'm talking about a nightclub that could fit over 300 people at a time. When someone placed a drink order- 10 dollars for a mixed, or 5 for a beer, they would pick it up from the service bar who wouldnt ring it up, and both the drink price and tip (Normally another 5, 10, or 20) would go into the servers pocket. I did not agree with how everyone made their money here, even though the tips were wayyyy more than the restaurant i manage, which i was doing both in a 16 hour day.. I feel i am an honest person, and would prefer to do smaller sidejobs to make the money i need than work at that nightclub from 9-10pm until 7am
I can only say that the servers at this establishment are greatly skilled at keeping things hush-hush.

The people I know who worked those types of jobs say that you may make good money one or two days per week....and then next to nothing the remainder of the week. So, in the aggregate, they are not paid that well....

I go to the bar to order take out so I can drink before I drive home. Should I tip?
Actually you will have to tip twice depending on the amount of beers. First you will need to tip the person working the noblest of all jobs. The bartender! Then skip tipping the waitress or whoever gets you your food. You will need as much left in your wallet as possible to tip the nice policeman for letting you off with a warning. Some may call this a bribe, but if you call it a tip for good service then you don't risk getting in more trouble.

why do i have to tip at the strip club after paying admission and then ordering overpriced drinks?
I actually checked your profile because i was agreeing with you and curious what you did for a living, not because i was angry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

It was actually relevant.

Based on my recollection of the occupation of my peers in high school, yes.

But many, including myself, believe the service provided by the waitress is different whether the order is to go versus sitting down and eating. In effect, you are making a donation to the waitress based on a job title and not because of the quality of the service rendered.
No, I understand that part. That is why I tip only 10%. If I was to sit down and get full service then I pay 20%. If service is poor then I deduct or in the case of carry out, not at all. So I don't merely donate on title. I am just not of the penny pinching mindset //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Thats similar to how the place i manage is, when i have someone else helping me, but when i'm alone it turns into liveable cash during the week. Those 3 nights that are packed, though, bring in more than a weeks worth of restaurant paycheck per night. I use averages for my weekly pay, since it changes every week.. I cant say i make XXX per week because i don't always work the same hours either, everything is varied

Oh and the question you posed about wally world is far from relevant. They make more than a waitress on base pay. The scenario is far from the same. Hence irrelevant.

Take-Out at an actual Restaurant should always lead to a small tip, around 10%. The waiter/bartender still has to go in back and package the food and bring it up front, etc. I always just leave a small tip for restaurant carryout (not pizza places)
