I just switched from and alpine v12 amp 340x1 @ 14.4v with an Alpine Type S 12" sub in a 1.3 cu ft sealed box................. to a ......... Memphis 500x1 @13.8v with an RL-p 12" sub in a 1.3 cu ft sealed box and i dont hear to much of a difference. Does the sub need to break in before it really starts getting loud, or should it sound how it will sound directly out of the box??

As far as setting my gain on my sub, I put the HU on volume to 80%...played a 50hz tone at 0db...had everything flat and my sub control turned all the way up and adjusted to the proper voltage.

What do you guys think?

The RL-ps are designed to reach full excursion with 600-700w. With a well-designed and built ported enclosure, it will get louder and require less power to reach its full potential.

In short, get a ported box

The Premium 12 is available in dual 4 and dual 2 voicecoil and will reach full excursion in most applications with between 600 and 700 watts. Memphis told me their amp is underrated and that it actually puts out a little over 600watts.

The RL-p12 is optimized for small sealed or vented enclosures. For people seeking great sound quality and economy of space, we suggest a sealed enclosure between 0.75 - 1.5 cu ft, with the general consensus being that 1.0 - 1.2 cu ft net volume is ideal for a solid balance of low frequency extension and overall output. For those jonesing for the ultimate loudness while retaining very good sound reproduction, we would recommend a vented enclosure between 1.5 - 2.0 cu ft net volume, with a tuning frequency of 28 - 34 Hz for car audio or 20 - 25 Hz for home audio.

I kind of thought I would need a good ported box..but figured i'd try it out first in the sealed box i allready had. Where can I purchase a well made ported box? I do not feel like making my own.

I really dont have much free time on my hands with the type of shifts I work and the amount I work. So I was just wondering where I could buy a good quality ported and tuned box. Do you guys reccomend 1.5 cu ft or 2.0 cu ft ? What will make it a lot louder then it is right now?
