What's funny is that the people who are "against" bumping in public areas actually think they are "better" than the people who do it.
Here is the first mistake...don't be condescending toward the younger crowd who likes to slam their system in public. It's part of being young. I did it, and most of you probably did in your teens. As you might remember, if someone told me at 17 yrs old to turn it down, I would turn it up.
Kids will be kids.
Personally I don't see anything wrong with slamming some bass while crusing through a mall parking lot. Like the poster said, it will be audible momentarily. Tell me what it is about the bass that causes it to be disrespectful. Is it simply the noise? Is noise really that bad? Does it hurt people?
Please don't take my response the wrong way. I do not pound in residential areas or intersections. It makes me feel like a dick.
You know, my neighbor had his lawn crew outside my window at 7:40am this morning, and I lost an hour of sleep. But I didn't complain, because it really didn't affect my daily routine all that much, just as the OP bumping his system did not affect that old man's day at all. The old man chose to make it an issue rather than go about his day.
Anything you do causes noise to be created, and if you can't deal with noise in a public place, I don't think you should be at a public place.
Flame away, but like I said, I don't bump near people's houses whatsoever. I won't be waking anybody up, hurting anybody, or causing anything harmful to happen.
And again - I'm not "that guy" who is always slamming his stereo...some of you people are just looking for something to complain about.
