Dissappointed ... Need some settings help!

ok, i set my HU to flat (0sub, 0loud, 0bass) played 36hz 0db test tone at 30/40 volume. everything down on the amp. if i turn the gain all the way up, i only get like 10v. i need 46.9v. wtf did i do wrong?
sorry for the hijack
still need help. what did i overlook?

Check wiring on sub, it looks fine.

Put the sub level up to +15 on the HU and tried to set gain with no bass boost on amp and LPF on amp set to around 80.

Gain is still cranked pratically all the way up. It seems like it goes from barely thumping to too much gain and it stops outputting for a few secs until I turn it down right away. Hard to get it in between. Could this be a faulty sub?

Could this be a faulty sub?
Could be. Could also be a faulty amp.

Make sure your power and ground wires are attached (both ends) appropriately. Are you starting your vehicle and letting the engine run while setting the gains?

Yeah, I've been starting the car. I'll have to get a multimeter and check the amp I guess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Oh, and loudness should be off right? Bass seems to sound better and louder when I turn it on but I read in the guide it should be off. (aren't preamp outs supposed to be unaltered signal?) What is the loud setting anyways? Just more gain?

Yes, Loudness should be off when setting gains (unless you intend on keeping it on all the time after setting gains).

It's a low and high frequency EQ booster built in to the HU.

Gotta multimeter at radio shack and setup up things perfect! Thanks Dejawiz!!!

On the HU:

sub level at 15

All EQ to 0

LPF 80hz (more accurate than the amps pot with no numbers)

Loudness off

internal amp for speakers off

Volume at approx 75%

On the amp:

LPF all the way up

bass boost 0db

SSF off

Played a 60hz 0db test tone and adjusted the gain to approx 42volts (600 watts at 3 ohms).

The gain pot was really wierd, it would raise the voltage really slowly first 3 quarters of the turn. Then at like 80% it the pot got very steep. It would go from like 38volt to 45volts when I turned it the least I could. If it went above that I would hear the amp click a few times and lights blink. Clipping? Protection mode?

Well, even at 80-90% with a crappy gain pot, I'm glad that my amp will put out advertised wattage.

Bad news is when I went to go hook the sub back up I noticed the rubber surrond that connect with the cone came came off have of it! Is there a way to fix that? Looks like it was just glue holding that on.

I know I wrote a book sorry, just glad to have this resolved, even if I have to buy a new sub.

Thanks for the help everyone!
