this is the 4ch amp i have:

is it possible to get more than 160wrms x2 @4ohm with this and not clip?

1. Use the formula SQRT(Watts*Ohms) = Amp Output VoltageSQRT(160*4) = 25.3V from each bridged output.

wow, there are like a million test tones at ROE. which ones do i need? i'm very clueless with this. also, how do i know when my amp is clipping?

These right here would be a great place to start (direct d/l link for 0dB WAV RAR).

The -3dB tones might be something to mess with as long as you are aware that clipping might occur.

If you intend to use your ears, beware, it's really painful when you set your front/rear speakers with 1kHz sinewave. Really...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

That's why you listen to a music track you know well...not one a tone.

Listen to real music, and set your gain with that. Listen to a couple different songs so that you can dial it in. It's cheaper than buying a DMM (ie: free).

ok, thanks. so how do i use these with a DMM to set the gains? i didnt read all those links yet... i wanna do this when i get home, and it'll be dark in like 2 hrs, so all help is appreciated.

Again, listen to music when you set the gains. Distortion is just as easy to hear with music as it is with tones.

There's no reason to run out and spend $20 (or more) on a DMM just to set gains.

Ok, I'm at work but went out and messed with the amp.

HU: 0 sub level with loudness off. Jacked the volume to around 75% without distortion.

amp: SSF off. 6db bass boost OFF. LPF around 80 (it's a like a gain pot without ref numbers)

The sub really didn't really become that audible until 95% gain. If I went as far as 100 it would start to distort. Enough room to make an adjustment. What's wrong!!!???

Could it be a bad gain pot? Bad RCAs? I mean this thing will hit if I turn the gain all the way up but that's really bad right?

Have you double checked the sub wiring to ensure it's presenting the amp with a 3 ohm load and not 12?

ok, i set my HU to flat (0sub, 0loud, 0bass) played 36hz 0db test tone at 30/40 volume. everything down on the amp. if i turn the gain all the way up, i only get like 10v. i need 46.9v. wtf did i do wrong?
