digital designs recone?

when i cut the dustcap off, how am i making the cut, right in the center of the glue, at as close to the angle of the cone as i can get? do i need to be careful about depth of the cut?

if it is a cold solder joint or something, wouldnt that be a manufacturer defect that they would replace free or at reduced cost? just shipping the ****ed thing back and forth will be a good 80 bucks.

Call them about the recone kit, I started working there today and they mentioned something about sending out recones sometimes.

any word on taking the dustcap off? i'd hate to take it off, fix the problem then find out i screwed it up to where i can't reattach it and need a recone anyway.

Not sure how strong that 'carbon fiber' is..i've ripped it with my hand before. You may be able to smack it with a wrench and shatter it.

All you'd be out is a dustcap, if you need one i'll send it to you. Granted it won't be a carbon fiber one, but at least you may not be stuck doing a whole recone..

Shipping should not be that high. Hell you could drive it down to them.

if you have a composite cone 18 and composite dustcap, send it in. Composite 18 cones are like $345 and you don't want to purchase THAT field kit! maybe cut the surround and spiders from the former, cone and dustcap and send that in to be re-fitted into a kit? At that point, it'll be no different than a regular field kit.

so i cut the thing apart today. coil shows obvious signs of abuse, and one tinsel on each side is burned up just before it exits the spider. i'm assuming this is typical of blowing a sub by clipping/too much power and not of cold solder joints?

and what could have caused both to burn up like that at the same time, problem with my amp? like i said it was wanging just fine, i turned it down, when i turned it back up to where i normally have it if i'm bumping, it played about 1/4 second, paused the same amount of time, played another 1/4 second, then nothing.

amp wasnt showing any protection lights or anything out of the ordinary.

That is some serious discoloration on that coil as I have run over 4kw on a 95 coil and never had it look like that.I tend to find the limits of the suspension as the failing point on 95 series DD's. I am now running 10 layer spiders for some super stiffies.
