Hey, its been a while since I posted a build log. I was rushed and did not have much time to work in a heated shop, so its not the cleanest build. My box ended up way too small, and I will be re-doing it with fiberglass when it gets warmer. Enough with the chit chat, time for the pics that people want to see in a build log!

I re-used my old speaker boxes until I can make door pods with fiberglass

More pics in a second..

Family photo with my 9512's that I never got to use. I love that style of basket //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Another pic of the sub

Don't worry, there is a hole in the wood its sitting on. It bothers me when people let their subs sit upside down on the surround //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rage.gif.0ad8a6e5565b5fddce406566fdd05149.gif

Box under rapid construction. I added another length of port too

My amp rack, for those who didn't see it in another thread.

What vehicle is that?
1986 Pontiac Fiero. My SPL baby

It's always good to see another Z build //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I wish mine were Z3s instead of the original 99z.

I want that motor.... Lucky you
He still has the other one for sale!

I like the originals better, as far as looks. Do the Z3's still have a 4" coil?

Also, you looking to sell yours? I could always squeeze another in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boink.gif.91933e72f927f2cefc79aff02573090c.gif

The Z3 is the new motor with the 3" coil, the Z4 is the very rare 4" version. Yours look like Z3s, mine are the black 99z motors and look slightly different than yours. Maybe yours are from when they first started making Z3s?

It has the red pole piece. Pretty sure it has a 4" coil.

Here are two FS threads where my sub was labeled as a a 9912z. The 99 means 4" coul and 95 means 3" for DD products, right?

99 used to be the designation for composite cones before the new 99 series, they've all got 3" coils. You'll know if it's a Z4 - the motor is massive.

After looking at the pictures, yours is in fact a 99z which is the original version... but mine is different, still. I guess that means there were 2 versions of the 99z, and I'm not sure which one came first.

I saw that video with the guy cutting the surround.

Your motors look shallower, but that could be because the subs are bigger. The red pole piece meant something else was different too. All I want to know is, does it have a 4" coil?? It seems dumb to use a 3" coil on something like this.

I got the coil real smelly while demoing tonight.

Yours has a 3" coil, and I'm not really sure what the red pole piece means. The inside of my motor looks a little different, too. And there aren't screws in the bottom plate like on yours. I'm assuming mine is older just judging from yours looking more like the current Z's

Damn. That limits power a lot. Would a Taramps 8000 HD be too much for daily power??

It's hard to say, the column style motor helps cool the coil a lot more than standard designs. I think if you set your gains where you wouldn't be clipping at all and were smart with the volume knob, you'd be fine. On music you'd probably be seeing half that power at most.

I was planning on an HD8k on both of mine and eventually moving up to an 8k per sub.
