Impossible to say, I would put my money on the type-r being the all around better sub, but not by much.

comparing two similar drivers, one will not really kill the other per 'se...

The Type R, good woofer as well, is 500 RMS and 1500 peak, Comp VR is 800 RMS, 1000 peak...so depending on the amplifier used, max power is really meaningless.

Get distorted? Any sub can get distorted....enclosure and amplifier determine that....

Doesn't matter, maybe Polecat just misread somethin'. It happens. But I would say go with the kickers to get back to the original post! Those kickers are very nice and look pretty sweet with the new grilles as well. But I like the Alpines as well, so yeah let your ears be the judges.

The website says that, but the 2005 lit I have in my hand says 800/1000..I will look into that...

But none the less, I would listen to each, and decide....I wouldn't just take my word for it, the ears judge better.
