Crossover Location

I recently installed two pairs of Boston SX60 components in my truck running off a Boston GT40 4-channel amp. I mounted all 4 of the crossovers in the rear right next to the amp. I just read somewhere that they should be as close to the speakers as possible. Is this true or does it not make any difference. My reasoning for mounting them close to the amp was that the power is carried by one pair of wires into the crossover and two going out. Thanks.

i went to home depot and bought some industrial strenght velco. Then i velcod mine to the inside of the door, (between the outer skin and the inner bracing) make sure that you put them low enough so that it lets your window roll down all the way, i made that mistake, i had to take it all apart and do it again. And also you only then have to run 1 wire through the grommet in the door.

okay but he was asking if it was best to wire them as close as possible to the speakers

you got me interested, because I'm about to move my crossovers in the trunk and just run long wires... bad move?

No...

I installed mine in the doors just for the sake of hiding most of the wiring and the fact that I don't have any place elsewhere to put them, but mounting them in the trunk is fine.

oh sorry...i guess i got excited and didnt read the whole thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

but i dont think it matters that much unless your car is like 50 ft long.

You'd be amazed at how much wire you could deal with...when we wired up a Merc Brabus 300CE at the SSA meet, we used just about 100 feet of 14awg to do two Orion P6.2's in the doors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok thanks for the reply... everything is wired up so it will stay that way lol. Ya I used a little over 100 feet for 4 woofers and 4 tweeters in a crew cab truck. I was just wondering if it made any difference in SQ to mount them closer to the speakers, but I guess not. Thanks.

I have my crossovers back with my amp (Chevy Single Cab) and I used close to 50-60 feet when I wired up mine. Here a pic to show you that even though my crossovers arent that far from my speakers, you still use alot of wire.

It makes no difference other than the amount of wire used. Mine are in the trunk. Easier to bi-amp the speakers later //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
