normally it is for the tweeter, 0 full signal, -3db or -6db lowers the pwr to the tweeters, use if they are overpowering the balance

Basically it's the slope of the crossover, the higher the slope the faster the cut.

You're describing the poles in the filter, this topic has to do with the attenuation of the tweeter relative to the overall frequency response. Try not to confuse the poor chap.

It's not the slope. It just controls the level in relation to the woofer. As the first reply said, it's in case the tweeter is overpowering which could be the case depending on how the tweeter is mounted i.e. location and how close to (or far from) on-axis they are. If you feel your tweeters are too strong then try -3dB. If they are STILL too strong then try -6dB.
