Creating a **** effect for L7 box.

getting there man. I like the idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Couple suggestions though

1. Thick non reinforced filler = gonna crack

2. You can do it the way your doing it , but would have been better off using kitty hair , duraglass , or bondo hair to get your shape instead of bondo . Would have been a lot stronger.

3. Your killing yourself on the sanding man , by using to high of grit paper too soon. I would have still been using 80-120 paper up to and probably beyond the stage of your last picture . No where near ready for 220 or anything .

4. Use a body file next time to knock down all the ridges in the bondo as soon as it turns rubbery . Saves an arse load of paper and time

bondo is waay cheaper than resin $15*2 for 2 cans of bondo, about $12 in sandpaper

vs.

$30 fiberglass resin+ $15 bondo + fiberglass+ brushes and so on and so on and so on
Been buying gold flake resin lately? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

cheap resin is about $35/gallon...you would need about a quart...

$10 Quart of Bondo Resin

$0 old fleece sleeping bag or blanket

$6 pack of Bondo 6oz cloth

$7 small can of bondo

$12 in sandpaper

$1 pack of doller general brushes

Total: $36

as opposed to your $42 waste of bondo.

x2 if you didnt want to stretch fleece. Kitty hair is good stuff. Just a PITA to work with your first time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you want to do ALOT of sanding work use cheap bondo. If you want to do the least amout of sanding possible use Rage Gold Body Filler. It sands much easier. Plus you should really only have to use 1 layer. You shouldn't have any filler that is more than 1/4" thick. You should have used duraglass to build up around the rings. You may have a problem with the bondo cracking. Personally I would have glued the rings one. Then stretched grille cloth or fleece over it to give it a shape, glassed it and put maybe 1 layer of mat on it since it really isn't part of the box, and then sand down high spots with grinder, put bondo on, sand it out and it would make it alot easier to fill those litle holes with spot putty or you can buy some polyester primer and spray it with that. It is a high build primer that works great for this kind of thing. Then sand it down and primer. Sand again and its ready for paint. Other than cleanind of course.

Also get some practice spreading bondo. You are using a bondo spreader right? It is better to leave a line that is high than one that is low. You can always take off but you will have to fill again if it is too low.
