I'll post pics of what Im doing to the port area tomorrow

I am sure 20 people on here can tell you 19 different ways to do this, and they all have some validity, from ones own experience.

I am replying to say KUDOS to you for doing something differently, and in your own way! I hope you continue to keep us informed, especially after the project has been completed, and how well your techniques stood up to the test of time, and bass. I know someone is looking at your metal shaping skills and thinking..hmmm, how can I apply that? Good Job Orphe!

i wonder why nobody else uses 3 inchs thick of bondo on the faces of box?
cause there are some slightly better ways to go about this sort of project?

now, a disclaimer to this post... im not saying you did a bad job, you did a good job. but, i do agree that there is a better way this could have been accomplished. and for the amount of work you did, i hope that the pics are not doing it justice. it looks (to me at least) like the visual effect you were going after is slightly diminished due to the build up of bondo in the center. i think that you would have been better off going with wood spacers, and a few layers of glass. then some minimal bondo. the amount of work would have been the same, probably less, and you could have controlled the outcome a little better. plus, this would have been a near perfect intro to fiberglass project.

but, the work is not bad at all. anything where you put some time and effort into it isnt going to turn out bad. but im sure with all the input you have gotten, and looking back at the project, you have learned some things, and maybe next time you might try it a different way. and thats what everyones here for, to learn something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

wholy shiznit thatsalottabondo

Fabric and resin would of saved you a ton of time, but to each their own....people call my boxes crazy too, so I cant say much.

It will probably hold for a long while and do just fine though, the bondo in this case isnt really supplying any structure and doesnt have to support any weight but its own.....and thats a good thing.

keep it up mang
