Computer fan constantly running.......How to get it to stop?

Sorry, I know it wasn't very technical. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
I just thought a non-tech perspective would help somewhat.

For what it's worth, I did learn a few things in this thread. Make me want to try and build my own next time around. So thanks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Out of curiosity.

How often do you guys upgrade your comps?

I built my gaming computer 2 1/2 years and still runs like a champ. Havnt really seen a reason to upgrade as I can play any game out there. I see people who buy new acc. every few months or whatever.

once a year or so. Just upgrade whatever needs it.

When I originally built it I had an awesome case and powersupply and decent mobo/processor. I skimped on video card so a year later I bought a good vid card. Then a year later I bought 4 sata hard drives. Now I am in the process of looking for a new mobo/proc

Now the real flaming will start I'm sure, but I have a Dell that's about 6 years old now and has been completely problem free. It has XP with a Pentium 4, nothing special. Pretty fast also.

Yeah, Im still running on the first run of e6600 conroe processors and an 8800gts 640mb graphics card. Thats how old my computer is hahaha.

I like it though, Im gonna see how long I can last on what I have. Im probably gonna SLI my cards if I can find another one for the cheap.

Thats what I did lol.

it doesnt happen to be a DELL XPS 200?
Its a Dell Dimension E510.

Apparently Chase ruined one of deerhunt's threads, which is not cool.

Tonight I am going to go buy duster and I got a brush here. Hope it fixes the problem. I am not a PC guru by any means and haven't did a **** thing to this pc since I got it 3 years ago.

Have you had to do any reformatting or anyting like that?

Ive only done it 4 times so far. Two times I did it willingly and the other two I messed something up and had to reformat.

I should add that I don't game on it though. I use it for programs like Illustrator 9.0, AutoCad 2000, Acid, BassBox6 Pro, high speed innerwebz, things of that nature.

I built mine 3 years ago. Went with a RAID 0 setup halfway through. Helped me keep up with other people with slightly newer stuff for awhile. Now, my CPU doesn't even meet min requirements of games I want to play. And either I got a bad stepping or reivision for OCing, but my Opteron sucks at going above 2.2. Tried all kinds of configurations, tweaks. *shrug*

Doing a complete new build currently. Hoping to get about 3 years out of it as well.

Which fan is it? CPU fan or is it a case fan?

Either way, a can of air and a brush should work.

When you buy the duster, don't get it at walmart. Also don't get any that has the bittering agent in it. They put it in there to prevent ppl from huffing it, but that shit gets EVERYwhere when you use it and you put your hands anywhere near your mouth after being anywhere near you computer it tastes horrible.

Nope, none of that yet thankfully. I try my best to keep it free of files that I don't need and defragment the HD occasionally but that's about it. Knock wood.

I didnt even know you could get air without the bitterent. All of my cans have that shit.

Yup its still out there, and i think if we raise enough hell we can someday be bitter free again.

Walmart only sells it with bittering agents. which is why i recommend against purchasing it there
