Computer building, I am

Cooler paste is only important for overclocking and that's a whole other thing. The hardest part of (doing) that (right) is in overclocking ram. It takes a patience that can only be obtained by having another working computer lol.

You can run silicon hot for a long time, it's just not recommended. My GPU failed due to long term heat because EVGA decided silence was more important than the longevity of their chip, it still took 2 and a half years.

Edit: Important as in compared to the default paste that's already on the supplied CPU heatsink. It's important all the time if you have nothing between the CPU and the heatsink.

I plan to overclock some eventually, just to learn, not necessarily because I need it. I just want to change the paste before I settle in with doing the OS.

A word of advice for starting out, overclocking won't damage a computer, but overvolting will. Motherboards and CPUs can handle quite a bit depending on the value you're messing with but memory can't. It will work but greatly shorten the life to the point that it's going to fail eventually if you go like .1 volt above rated. The issue with memory is that every bit can fail and intermittently crash you later on. You don't wanna mess with memory issues, it's one of the most frustrating parts to diagnose. Sometimes the problematic bit will expose itself during a memtest, sometimes it won't.

Personally I would keep the ram stable at 3600. The ryzen 3k chips don't have a ton of overclocking room, but you can pull a bit out of them. Use the Ryzen Master software. Its actually incredibly powerful for OEM software and allows you to tweak and tune per core.

Yeah I was curious about even trying low voltage OC. It's kinda like car audio, there's a few ways to be faster (louder). Keep it cooler but still overclock.

I think my Hero 8 does per core, iirc. I think I saw it, there's so many damn settings my head spins lol

Up to 2933 mhz iirc is not overclocking on the 3800xt. That's something to remember too about my CPU heat levels, is that the 3800xt is one of the hotter running CPU's from AMD/Ryzen, compared to even a 3800x., iirc.

I did an oopsie

Not sure if it's my fault

Nobody tells you that if you put your OS USB in a 3.0 slot, then your mouse and keyboard won't work when you try to install your OS. So I couldn't choose any options during the initial countdown, and it started installing everything automatically. Here's maybe the mistake: I turned the PC off because I didn't know the USB port 2.0/3.0 issue was the issue. I didn't want it to auto-install. So now if I do a secure boot, I get the red screen. If I don't do a secure boot, I get the blue screen, pics below. I've tried quite a lot to get around this so far, nothing has worked. It doesn't make sense to me at all, since it didn't install anything hardly as I turned it off almost immediately. How in the living f*ck was I supposed to know about the issues with the mouse and keyboard not working if I put my OS in a 3.0 slot instead of a 2.0? Can anybody explain that to me? Why the f*ck doesn't the OS work in a 3.0 slot?

How is turning off the PC a violation of a secure code? Nothing was changed. I didn't do anything to the USB. Doesn't make sense to me, and there's no real help on this one for me, I've still got a couple of options to try, but I don't understand how to do them yet.

Big shout out to @Coolhand20th for helping me out for 5-6 hours troubleshooting this OS issue. That USB issue where I couldn't use my mouse or keyboard during my initial setup that I messed up was crazy!!!!!! Took me forever to figure out. I learned some stuff thanks to coolhand, so major props my man!

I still want to know why my OS install would basically freeze my mouse and keyboard when I put in it a USB 3.0 slot. Wtf "COME ON MAN", seriously. You'd think either ASUS or Windows would include some kind of disclaimer about that. Thank goodness my case came with a couple of 2.0 USB ports. I have 13 USB port on my motherboard and not a single one is a 2.0. So thanks, corsair, for putting a couple of 2.0's on the front of my case. Saved my rear end there.
