complete new install, sub issue?

I recently installed a complete new system in my passat sedan. The system consists of

Alpine 9887 HU

Alpine MRP-F600 4 channel amp for components, active off HU

Alpine MRP-M500 mono amp

Image Dynamics CTX65CS components

Image Dynamics IDQ12V3.D4 12" Sub

I am running the single 12" sub in a sealed enclosure, 1.04 cubic feet.

The problem is in order to get a decent amount of bass out of it I have to crank bass settings up on the hu, but then the sub will cut out, amp does not turn off, but no more music, have to turn the hu off and back on to get the amp to come back on (just the mono amp, no problems with the 4 channel). I have the bass boost on the amp itself off, gain is about 3/4 up though, anything less and I get basically no bass out of it. I have played with gain down and bass boost on amp turned up a little and the situation is even worse.

I used to have a single 12w6 in sealed box with an old punch 100 dsm amp and got considerably more bass out of it then this new setup. ideas what to look at?

You need to set the gain on the amp using a test tone. Use the //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/search.gif.e79a63b2b580b39b282dff402646b704.gif feature for more on that.

figured it out, I knew something was not right. First I pulled the sub out, did an ohm test and was sitting at 1.6-1.7 ohms (assuming I did it right.. held one side of my tester to + and the other to - It jumped around alot then finally settled at 1.6-1.7 range (should be 2 ohm though I thought). I put the sub back in the box.. and decided to check the rcas.. there was the problem, only one side was getting signal.. must be a break in the rca somewhere.. so for the time being I just put a Y on the one side that works and bingo.. huge difference in bass, was able to turn the gain down to about half or less and got alot more bass overal.
