Comp Set Question

If im getting a set of component speakrs for my car is it pretty much necicarty to power them with a externmal amp.

I got a kenwood headunit thats pretty powerful and im pretty much just trying to upgrade from the stock Poineer comps in my car now. Right now when im pushin the speakers to the max the volume and sq will cut out untill i give it some time to cool down. I just want to eliminate that.

So back to my orignal question, will getting some good components and powering them off my HU been a dumb idea?

Its not a dumb idea cause it will work but you won't get the full potential of your speakers.
