Cleanest Amplifier

there are endless brands out there that are decent amps. JL, Zapco, PPI, Brax, Xtant, Diamond, DEI...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Okay. So you said it has "better features and probably more."
What do you mean by that exactly?

Basically, what makes one Zapco watt sound "cleaner" than any other watt?

BTW, I'm talking true power here. It sounds like you're comparing a "100 watt" Pyramid amp that actually puts out 50 watts vs. a "100 watt" Zapco amp that actually puts out 200 watts...

Oh, and just to make it even easier for you, here is a wiring schematic for a Zapco amp:

I think I understand what he was trying to say, that the zapco might have better features than a pyramid, and I think the majority of people here did understnad too. COme on, let's stop giving each other a hard time. A watt is a watt, but how that watt is processed after might be different. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What sort of features are those? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

why is it then that amplifiers can be assigned sound to noise ratios?you know about THD?
I do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif
So what you're saying is that if you took a JBL 80.4 and an A/D/S 450.2, you're looking at is a difference between:

  • 0.05% THD vs. 0.10% THD
  • 90 dB signal-to-noise ratio vs. 110 dB signal-to-noise ratio
Knowing those two things, which of these two amps would sound "cleaner?"

i didnt say those were the only factors. come on now.
What are the other factors then? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Come on now...these factors should be obvious if people are willing to pay twice as much for "clean power."

i didnt say that i knew what they were. i just laughed when zane made the claim that amplifiers cannot affect sq. thats just not true.
You can't tell a difference between an $85 US Acoustics amp and my $350 Arc ...

I'd love to see you and Mr. Clark have a conversation. You'd loose $10K in a minute.

Unless your amp is pumping out a 75% THD or some ungodly figure, you're not going to notice a difference. Even then, it wouldn't be a huge difference.
