Clarion 32" sub

This year marks the comeback of Clarion.

Their amps have always remained great, their HUs have been ok for the last few years, their speakers have left a bit to be desired over the past few years, and their subs have remained consistintlly good, their processors they quit all together (DSPs).

Their Canadian branch has been the best over the last 5 years or so.

MTX is alright still, at least their higher end stuff. They've been around forever! Alpine has been around a loooong time as well. I mean as far as companies that have been around a while.

are there any "popular" brands from the 90s that are still good?
Zed (None of the brands that he built for are good, but his amps are still great), Zapco, Audison, Arc are a few that come to mind whose overall quality hasn't dumped.

Alpine, pioneer, and Kenwood still have great head units and IMO their other stuff is rougly the same level of quality it has always been... for what that's worth... nothing extreme, but good quality for big-box-store fare. Pretty sure Atomic was around back then and their stuff is still good.
you will have to save the cone and surround, other then that or build from scratch.
I have a plan....
Sub'd just to find out more about a sub I haven't heard about in a long time. @hispls, when you get that monster out, could you take a pic or two of the whole sub? I don't believe I have ever seen the motor structure before and it'd be cool to see it. :yumyum:
Will take pics when we perform surgery on the other one.

The coil.....

I cant see the top plate because the motor is encased in the frame, but I suspect this is underhung. Actually wire gauge is a bit thicker than I expected.

We may just end up having some new coils wound for this which would **** because minimum order is 10pcs and you don't get a good price break until 200 or so, but compared to what this guy paid for the sub I guess even 500-600$ worth of coils isn't terrible.

especially is he blows coils while testing

sounds good are u gonna make a higher surround or do u think it wont have much excursion?
It is very limited by the depth of the gap and the distance between the spider landing and the top plate. Really assuming a better design the current surround would have a ton of throw
