Clarion 32" sub

Friend of mine has a couple of these. One running in about 13 cube sealed on 250W doing 140.6....not too shabby for a sealed box and 250W!

Anyway apparently while these claim 1000W max, he proved the hard way that they don't handle 1000W well at all. So, kind of wondering in anyone has any clue who actually built these or if there is any possible source of 32" cones. (I believe the coil is 4" so I suspect I can come up with one of those somewhere and spider appears to be 8" so that shouldn't be an issue).

why make such a big sub with such low power handling??
1999 tech.

Took some TS parameters. FS 15hz, Vas 102 cubic feet LOL. MMS on these is over 1.3 KG (by comparison my 18's with aluminum coil have mms of around 330g)

Curious to see what the coil actually looks like once we disect the blown one. Will get some pics tomorrow when we head out to a local show. I actually have an idea how I can fix it without a cone, but it will be dependent on me being able to find a coil and it'll probably be ugly.

wow crazy specs, it still seems like it would be able to handle alot power tho

Nope. 300 continuous "1000W peak" the guy tested out the whole 1000W burp with his other one and it didn't last 2 seconds on his old ZR1000

I'll buy the dead one if he wants to sell.
We are going to try to repair it. I got some ideas and FOSTEX currently makes 31.5" woofer so SOMEBODY is making cones that big still. Spider appears to be 8" and coil looks like 4"

they didnt make them for long because they had too many design issues.
They seem very impractical for everything except drawing a crowd to check it out at shows....they should have named it the "WTF" because that's what you say when you see it.

Why not port it in that box?
Model the specs for yourself, unles you're into a 60 cube or bigger box, port tuned to ANY frequency only gives a peak in the high 50hz range. This guy has an explorer that does high 150's so this build isn't about doing big numbers at 58hz

Wow.

Did you not get the Qts?
TSP's from WT3 with sealed box method to test Vas. Very close to published specs with slight varience I'd chalk up to age/play on this woofer.

* Piston Diameter = 812.8 mm

* f(s)= 15.48 Hz

* R(e)= 4.15 Ohms

* Z(max)= 63.00 Ohms

* Q(ms)= 5.695

* Q(es)= 0.401

* Q(ts)= 0.375

* V(as)= 2910.000 liters (102.800 cubic feet)

* L(e)= 3.30 mH

* n(0)= 2.56 %

* SPL= 96.19 1W/1m

* M(ms)= 1374.00 grams

* C(ms)= 0.08 mm/N

* BL= 37.16

Will post pics some time tomorrow.
