cheapest sufficient electrical for kicker kx2500

Anything is better than stock. But you have to look at output at idle also. and 70 amps at idle is next to nothing when you're running a 2500+w system plus the cars electrical. A HO alt. is not something you want to be cheap with. not only is it powering your system, but its also powering your car. if you go with some cheap-o company just to save a buck, and then your car dies and stalls in the middle of the road b/c the alt just decided to die your screwed. This is one thing I'll never understand. people are willing to dump thousands into their equipment, but dont wanna cough up a couple hundred to power the stuff. Just look into Iraggi, Mean green or Ohiogen.(just to name a few) You'll be happy you did. and I'll say it again, get at least a 200+amp.

"This alternator provides 55-60 amp capability at 800 engine rpm and 170 amp capability at 1600 engine rpm. " My car idles around 1200 RPM.

well my buddy has a kinetik 2400 that he said he would sell me for $220.

Great price on that battery, but i dont wanna buy it if the alt is gonna help me alot more.

What do you guys think? Mostly a streetbeater.

You need AT LEAST a 200a alt, I know from experience. That amp is capable of drawing 300+a. I still get voltage drops running my 2500.1 @ 1 ohm with a 200a alt, 1400hc and 2400hc.

If you want to go with big amps you cannot skip on the electrical.

do you think a everstart maxx marine in the back by the amp would help keep the amp from shuttin off? Just as a temporary fix until I can get a high output alternator?

It will help to a point. If your voltage is dropping so low that the amp is turning off then you need to be a little more conservative on the volume.

Amp isn't actually shuttin off its goin into protect due to low voltage. Gains are only halfway up....bass boost off. Voltage drops down to around 10.6 on some songs....but usually doesn't drop below 11 volts.

I just thought I might could get a cheaper battery for now until I get enough money to get a high output alternator.

My buddy has a a everstart maxx he said he would sell me for $30 or $40...can't remember. Or I could get a everstart maxx marine for I think $60 from walmart.

you need to keep the voltage AT LEAST up around 12.5 to keep that amp from frying or burning up your stock alternator.

Choice between alt or another battery? Get the alt; a battery is just another device for your stock alternator to charge.

So for right now, be conservative with the volume knob and definitely do not play around without the car running, save your money, and get a solid 200a alternator from a reputable brand.

Or get an amp with less current draw. I run my IA 20.1 @ ~0.5 ohm on a stock alt and small battery in the back and my voltage never goes below 13.5 if i'm not showing off.

I'm not worried about burning up the alt. Its got a lifetime warranty. :p

I agree with a lot of what you said but I have to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif at the statement about a 20.1 drawing less current than a 2500.1

If your gonna wait to get the alt then see if you can find a yellow top or red top optima as a second battery. I have a yellow top as my second bat and my voltage doesn't go below 13, i have a a herc-xx i dont know my current draw compared to yours.

what size alt do you have?

Reason I'm asking about the extra battery because I've read about alot of users on here running a kx2500 on a 90 amp stock alt with only a yellowtop in the trunk and had no problems at all.

yea no shit. what the hell is he talkin about. i run a 200a mean green with a 700cca everstart maxx. my ia 20.1 @ 1 ohm at idle drops voltage to 12.7 or .8ish from a 13.8v charge. and my mean green puts out the same current at idle that my stock at almost did at full cruise. so either his gain is set super concervitive or your getting some major impedance rise.
