cheapest sufficient electrical for kicker kx2500

Well ****, my IA 20.1 runs all day on a 9917 at 0.5 ohm and my voltage has never dropped below 12.5 even when blasting it on the meter.

Granted that was only for a few seconds and I baby the hell out of my equipment for daily driving and my gains are set extremely conservatively, but my headunit is set to the battery voltage display and it usually runs steady at 13.9 or 13.8 all day.

Maybe my amp is an anomoly and I'm lucky. Sorry if i was wrong, I was just speaking from personal experience. Maybe my electrical is better than yours, but I doubt it. Stock alt and hood battery with 1/0 big three and a stinger sp1000 in the back.

So that's why I assumed the 20.1 drew less current.

well "extremely conservatively" only means one thing to me...your not using the amp to its full potential. that amp is known to put out 2400+ @ 1 ohm, so at .5 ohm i can imagine its quite a bit more, and more power plus less efficiency @ lower loads means more energy as wasted heat.

its like comparing two exact same setups, with one amps gain set conservatively, and the others set to maximum unclipped power. of course the guy with the conservative setting is going to get less voltage drop...maybe even none, but the output will be very different. imo if you run any amp without setting gains with an o scope and a -6db test tone, its a waste of money on power. no offense to you , what so ever. i hope you understood my post and dont see it as being hostile.

may i ask how you set your gains? and if you used a test tone, what kind and at what reference level?

edit: on my stock 95a alt and battery, @ 1 ohm on songs like lil jon and hell just about any other, i dimmed like a mofo. cant imagine how much voltage drop i got, but it must of been crazy compared to my electrical now.

Reason I'm asking about the extra battery because I've read about alot of users on here running a kx2500 on a 90 amp stock alt with only a yellowtop in the trunk and had no problems at all.
You have to remember that you cannot believe everything that you hear. Common sense says that an amp that is capable of drawing 300a should **** a 90a alt when driven hard.

you mean much like people running 200a alt, that dont realize that alt will max out @ 2800 watts or so TOTAL meaning including what the car is using, and then complaing that they're still getting voltage drops and didnt expect it to be like that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Kickerlivinloud has a 20.1 and doesnt have voltage problems and he don't even have a second battery or alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

i hope your not reffering to the thread where he finds out he accidentally was at a much higher load than he previously thought...

i didnt have any dimming issues with stock alt and battery up to a respectable volume. but once i actually blast it, it would drop immensely. ohms law doesn't change, period. a 95a alt, will not support an amplifier that draws 200a or more, period. no ifs ands or buts.

and also a post like this

"IA 20.1

Sundown 1500

IA 40.1

You will probably want some electrical upgrades if you plan on using any of them though..

Jon"

would lead one to believe he knows the 20.1 is a current hog...
