Car electrical

Right now I have an 02 taurus with a 130 amp alt. At idle its around 14.35v and 12.7v with a/c full blast, headlights, and rear defroster on. Battery is a diehard gold. Big 3 all in knu 1/0 fleks. Look at sig for more info.

When my car is sitting idle and put up more than one window all my lights dim even when I have everything electrical turned off(probably true in every car tho). But my main gripe is when I'm driving and I have my volume turned up, my lights will dim pretty badly to a song with a punchy beat. Usually I wouldn't mind this but I have HIDs and they are very touchy with voltage spikes and flicker. I did the big 3 hoping it would fix it but it really didn't do a whole lot imo. Was wondering if I should get something like kinetic hc 600 in my trunk to help with the dimming. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Yea, a battery in the trunk would help a bit...though Id look into a slightly larger model of battery for that amp, an HC1400 would be a nice, solid choice imo. What kind of power wire to the back are you running? If it isnt 1/0 gauge you need to upgrade that and a 1/0 gauge run back to the front (connecting rear and front batts negatives) would help instead of grounding to the chassis..

yay, another taurus. ive done some testing on the current draw in the taurus, and have found the stock alt BARELY has enough juice to run

1 headlights

2 defrosters (AC kicks on)

3 Rear defrosters

4 Actually power the car

so until you get a bigger batt, i wouldnt look forward to heavy bumping in the winter.

HO alts can be found pretty decently priced, do you have the OHV or the DOHC?

ouch, then I'd get a decent sized batt for the trunk, Deka G31, C&D, something along those lines, and call it done. youve got a very large trunk, so finding a spot to tuck a battery shouldnt be a problem

Are you still running your stock battery? My suggestion would be to grab the biggest deep cycle you can fit under your hood, and then go from there.

Generally, Fords only have enough electrical ability to keep them running from the factory. And what made you think you could run a 2Kw amp off one starting battery, factory alt, and the big three?

Got my new C&D 93ah battery in and wow what a difference, no dimming at all anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif When I was running my wire to the 2nd battery I didn't have enough 1/0 gauge to to make the ground on my amp so I used like 3 ft of 4 gauge straight to the battery. Is that a problem? I'm planning on getting some 1/0 later on when I get more money though.
