Really diving into learning about tuning my new system in my truck correct. I went with:

Hertz ESK 6.5" 2-Way Components in the front

Hertz DSK 6.5" 2-Way Components in the rear

Sundown Audio 8" D4 Subwoofer

Im just learning about crossover levels for maximizing the sound of the system. What would you set the fronts, rears and sub at?

I was told by the retailer 80, 100 and 120 but unless im understanding him wrong, thats going to miss a pretty wide range of frequency?

Please enlighten me. Specs below

Those " missed" freqs are on a slope and will converge at a certain freq... im not certain how to explain well but my sub is crossed at 50 and highs around 65... it sounds fine and has no missed freqs... im picky too... I like the bass to be hard to localize and strong midbass... sound is subjective and no 2 people will have exact tastes anyways... sorry if I eluded your question... explaining it is easy/difficult... and then everything including speaker placement and vehicle acoustics affect the sound... install is important as well... hope I didn't open a new set of questions...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Unplug the RCA cables to your sub and set your high end first. The starting frequencies they provided are fine and the crossover points on the low pass are an "up to this frequency", and on the high pass are "nothing below this frequency" not an exact point. Sub at 80 sounds good for an 8" and since you will be running the passive crossovers that came with your 2 component kits I would set them both at 100 first. If they sound distorted at max listening volume go up to 120.. if they sound like you are getting no midbass at all try running them full and only thru the passive crossovers.

this is how i do mine. unplug sub. set highpass for mids as high as you can. play a few different songs that have tons of bass, as loud as sounds good, then start lowering the xover point until it starts to sound bad

plug sub in, set the lowpass as low as possible, then start raising it until it blends with the mids

done
