Can i replace these subs??

hey, ive got a JVC HX-GD8 stereo system in my room.(yes is the most powerfull one they have made hehe)....and its got 2 7 7/8 inch subs (according to spec) in a "bass reflex" ported enclosure, with the port facing foreward.

My question is if i can replace these 7 7/8 inch woofers wt an "8" inch woofer, and if i can whats a sub that i can use? The amp that drives the subs puts out "195x2 min. RMS @ 6ohms at 63hz....to spec

so what are the best replacement subs? look up that model number at http://www.jvc.com if u need other info...

Home audio isn't quite as plug n play as car audio. You are going to have a hard time just slappin' another woofer in there and it sounding as good as the original speaker. You would have to know the original speaker's T/S parameters and Parts Express could probably get you pretty close. You might want to check into getting a replacement from JVC.

I think you'd be better getting a dedicated sub. You can get a powered one from parts express for $100. It can use a high level signal input from your JVC.

Why not just buy a sub you like form PE, a plate amp, and build a ported box.

Dude you can still run your current speakers AND add a dedicated sub. The only thing the JVC will be doing is providing a signal to the subs plate amp. ie you would be jumping an additional + and - from one of your speaker connections to the subs high level signal input. It wouldn't be actually driving the sub.
