Burning smell. Am I clipping or ?

So you changed NOTHING else except putting in the larger amp and it got quieter? I'd guess either a coil isn't hooked up, you opened a coil, or there's something wrong. The RF amp should have that sub going pretty nice.
I would suggest double checking EVERYTHING. If it never smelled before and now it's getting smelly and not as loud that's really strange. Assuming it's the amp, it would be a very unusual sort of fault and frankly a company like RF would have protection features to shut it down if that happened, so I'd be looking more for user error.

Pics would help.... post to a photo-hosting site and paste links here in IMG tags.
It is indeed very strange. Starting to think maybe im just smelling the sub and the wood mixture because of the amount of air being moved. But im still concerned. Ill try and figure out how to post some photos. What kind would help the most? M

Pics of any switches or knobs on the amp. I'd be interested to see the box as well.

Someone mentioned feeling the dustcap, which is the plastic which covers the entire cone. The way those square subs are set up, but the time that feels warm you're probably in big trouble. Really sketchy to just push it after it smells bad and hope it's not something about to fail. Woofers are not supposed to smell like a burning big mac when they're operating properly.

amps current settings

box is in back seat in extended cab truck, firing towards the ceiling. Best picture i could get right now

I can't really tell where the low pass filter is set. Should be @ 80hz.

Really it doesn't look like there's much else you could have botched there and the power and ground seems adequate. Sub and port up seems to do well enough in X cab pickups as well, and the box looks pretty big.

Have you verified that both coils are good and are indeed hooked up correctly and in phase?

Yeah, it was set roughly at 75 to 80hz. In the time i was off the board, i switched out the t1000 for an alpine PDX 600 @ 4ohms, haven't had any problems. Still stumped. Im gonna try the Rockford again here in the future. Thanks all for the replies.
