Building the top notch SQ system

@NoLoud4U
How are you liking your MS-8?
I've been going over some specs, reviews, and highlights of the features and it seems like a nifty little device. I have a few questions for you about it.
I saw on pictures that there is a little component display port. Could I use this and connect it direct to my HU (I have a rear camera and a AUX component ports for video in) instead of using the little screen it comes with? I don't really want to add a screen.
Also, I don't really have room in my box (Amp Rack) for another component, I wont have a problem putting this is say the glove box, or behind the dash, or somewhere else more hidden will I? Do I need to fiddle with the product itself, or does it have internal setting that you use the screen to fiddle with remotely?

I think it has a remote. Consider putting it under your seat, if there's room. You can connect it directly to an aftermarket or stock HU. He's done a review of it. It's largely a "it will do everything for you" kinda deal, but he needed to mess with it after the fact. May be cabin dependent...so you may or may not want to mess with it once it's autotuned. Btw I'm volunteering him to assist you in full with it if/when you do get it lol

I love flac, there is an absolute different in quality vs normal 256+kbps tracks, even using bluetooth.

Try to find someone with access to a site like waffles, or what.cd, and see about getting an invite. Probably the best music tracker I've found for FLAC and entire discographies, another option is rutracker.org but you need to translate the page with your browser.

HAHA, I'll hold him too that. Its not as expensive as I thought. http://www.amazon.com/JBL-MS-8-MS-Digital-Processor/dp/B003KN2TQ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434654388&sr=8-1&keywords=ms-8&pebp=1434654387321&perid=0SQ8R09EKBVJCMTJ5GWP but I have a long way to go before I get to that point. I'm going to "sound proof" my car first, so that's my next project. Next will be the Processor. I think under the seat will work great. Don't know why I didn't think of that lol. So it could be a few month, maybe a year until I'm to that point. But, my finances are going to become more free once my lady gets out of school and can start contributing to the bills(Not to mention pay her own car payment) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Here's mine under passenger seat, though I've been thinking moving it to the trunk as well so it can socialize with the amp:

Word of advice/perspective, though nothing to do with actual performance of equipment:

MS-8 autotunes and many people love it. Once it does that, you don't have too much flexibility with those settings. There are units out there that allow you to tune yourself and sky is the limit. I got my unit not because it's "better," but because it's entertaining. People in audio are always bored and that's why you see a lot of us swapping equipment, buying stuff, trading, experimenting, etc. Can get expensive, so I got this toy to satisfy that urge. A lot of time when I want to buy new stuff, I just go and f*ck with it for a while until the urge is gone. Side note, PS8 can be bought BNIB under $600.

I also get that not everyone wants to spend hours tuning stuff and just want it to sound great on its own, to whom I will not recommend PS8 or its counterparts.

The remote has to be connected for calibration than you can unplug it and use the HUs volume, you have to be able to get to the mic plug in for calibration. Its the perfect OEM integration piece.

fly_marlin had this crazy idea of putting it under my seat. So I think that sounds like a good spot. I'll be able to get the mic plugged in and everything. As far as the video question I had, maybe I didn't explain well enough. I'm looking to avoid this:

I want to be able to display this over my HU if at all possible .

Could I plug it directly into my HU screen to display this through the video in component port? The manual reads:

DISPLAYUse the included 6m (19.7 ft) cable to connect the display unit to the MS-8’s main unit’s display connection.

Insert the cable’s straight connector into the main unit and the right-angle connector into the display.
but it does not go on to say what type of connection it is. The manual looks like a 3.5mm jack, but the pictures of the MS-8 look like standard components. Which even if it was a 3.5mm jack, I could use and adapter to fit my HU if I can in fact connect the display through my HU instead of using their display screen.

No you cant. Nothing will do that

correct, you cannot get the MS-8 display to go anywhere else. the unit includes remote input and is a digital communication for control/display.

the only processor i know of that can display and control on a head unit is Alpine PXA with Alpine HU (Ai-Net), and they've done that for over a decade across several processors and HU's.

Okay. But I should be good then setting it up and putting the display away until next time? I could also wire it into the glove box, but just have the HD and paper work in the glove box is pretty space consuming. Maybe I'll fabricate something? Probably not.

On another note. When/if I get this, should I just run my tweets off the MS-8? or leave them connected with the front door speakers though the amp?

Also, nice nice build keep_hope_alive. I'm also in the QC, you should let me demo your build sometime. I'd love to know what a real SQ build sounds like.

If the huge controller is a big deal for you, you can go another route and avoid an external processor all together. Though will be more expensive, Pioneer 99prs is available. Do some research, maybe even 80prs will suffice.

Having a huge controller isn't a big deal if it is absolutely needed. I just don't like it because its ugly and wouldn't mesh well with the rest of my interior. If I can plug it in, set it up, unplug it and throw it in the glove box until next time. Its all good.

Also, what exactly should I be looking at when judging what processor I want to go with? I like that the MS-8 does a lot of the work for me. This is appealing because I don't really know what I'm doing. But, its also not appealing because it doesn't give me the chance to learn how to do it. I also like that if I wanted to, I could use it like a amp for a stock setup, and it seems easy enough to connect it to a factory HU.

I know I need to look for EQ(how many bands), and crossovers, but what else is important with processors, or is it user preference and user friendliness from there?

Tough one to gauge as you have to consider short and long term implications. If you can get one of them for far less than another (say used or otherwise), that would be something to think about. Look at pictures of other controllers, see if any of them mesh with the interior. Usability, GUI, and support would also be things to look at. You may prefer one GUI over another. Again, this is if you're deciding against the MS-8. NoLoud4U had the Audison unit, so he can speak to its cons/pros. I've already voiced mine regarding my DSP. If you suddenly acquire an engineering degree and care about sheer processing power and control over it, PS8 would be it. However, that's neither here nor there.

Do a forum search, in less than 10 minutes you'll gather all the DSPs people are looking at and using. Once you've done that, hit DIYMA forum and check out what people are saying about each as far as the criteria I've mentioned above.
