building the perfect system PART 2

HEADUNIT - I didnt really take my time to thing on this one, but I was going to plan to buy a cheap one, is there something I should know buying headunits? whats the difference between a cheap one and a good one? or it just gives you the extra goodies?
WIRE/INSTALL/BOX - The wires dont really look like they cost alot, arent like 10 bucks for good wires? Installing, I dont know how to install a system or anything, my friends do but I rather take it to the dealers and let the pros do it. Its not like I dont trust them but they talk alot like they know it so it makes me feel unsafe or if anything goes wrong you know? For the Box, I have no idea on boxes, so far I heard ported makes your subs louder as in bass right? Isnt the ported the small ones? if anyone can help me on the types of boxes please do

SUBS - So far I'm nailing 2 12" 2006 Kicker L7's, I really wanted to get 1 good sub and 1 good amp and end the story but I looks like the 2 12"s are a popular combo, heres what I've planed tho

- 2 06 kicker l7 12"

- 1 kicker solo x 10" (2.5kw)

- 1 kicker l7 15"

So far most of the comments say the 2 12"s would be the best pick, if so I'll guess Ill go with it not unless something esle good comes out

AMP - I dont know what amp I should get, but once I find the right sub I will be getting then Ill just go with whatever matchs it or just fits it just right, Its not like I'm going to overpower it or unpower it, just going with whatever the subs can take

PRICE 700-800

You dont want to get a cheap head unit- it controls your entire setup. I would say its the most important part of the entire system.

If you can find all the wires you need for $10, let us know, because youll be the most popular person on the forum. You might as well go with a 1/0 kit now, that way you wont have to upgrade your wiring in the future. Plan on spending AT LEAST $50 for a good kit. Check out http://www.knukonceptz.com or http://www.darvex.com

As for installation, prices will vary. It wont be cheap to have everything installed at a local shop though. Id guess $200 for a basic job of installing a head unit, wiring kit, amps, and subs.

Your box price will depend on where you get it from. You would be better off avoiding a prefab box, and either building your own, or having one built. If you build one, it would be maybe $40 in materials, to have one built would be between $100-$200 or so.

It wont be as cheap as you think to have a decent setup- how much is left after you buy your subs?

I'll go move if I have too, how much would you say a good price for a good headunit would be? 200-300 range? The dealers here say they will install the headunit for free if you buy it there, but then again I dont know if they got good headunits, what should I look for? they have all kinds from $50-1k(nav)

Depends on what features you need in a head unit.

Learn about different things, just browse some threads in the forum.

Add this http://www.bcae1.com to your bookmarks, spend some time there.

What you need in a head unit is just like anything else in your setup- it depends on you. You may be perfectly fine with a $30 dual from best buy, or you might need an in dash- noone but you would know.

The site has alot of info, but thats not the kind of info I need, I wont be spending alot of time reading all that just for a system, its good info tho but thats more like for a career or something

the g6 needs a indash inorder to put a new headunit in, but I already got that handled its like $75

Whats the difference between a $200 headunit vs $400 headunit? whats the $400 got over the 200? or is it all the same but just the looks and styles?

WAY WAY more difference than looks and styles.

You have to figure out what features are important to you before anyone can make any suggestions.

I dont think you could be more wrong, by no means do I plan on making car audio a career. To me car audio is a hobby, if you want to have yourself a killer system then you pretty much need to know how it works. Everytime you have a little problem here and there you are going to be better off knowing how to take care of it then taking it somewhere and wasting all your money. Dude you dont even seem to care about learning about any of this, if you dont want to then go take your money to a shop and let them rip you off and give you some bullshit.

1st- Get a nice headunit, look to spend around $150 for something decent, you don't really need to get too crazy if you don't want to.

2nd-Buy a nice wiring kit and get your car wired up, not just some cheap walmart kit will do, go to one of those links posted above.

3rd- Buy the subs you are going to go with.

4th- Buy a nice amplifier to power your subs.

5th- Have someone on here build you an enclosure, or pay for a design and build it yourself.

6th- Get everything in and tuned properly, this is were you really need to be careful. Dont **** up all your settings and end up clipping your shit to death. READ up on here and find out how you go about doing this theres a bunch of stickys you can look in. I would definately spend some time reading some of the info on www.bcae1.com

holy shit I quit, Ill stick with my stock lol there is too much my brain is going numb

Is your sole purpose for wanting a system just to show up your friend?

yeah, theres a lot to take in- but you will be much better off learning the stuff for yourself.

You might be better off just running one sub for now, later on you can upgrade but this is an intro into car audio for you. I would start off smaller and work your way up, not to mention even just one of these things can get pretty loud.

edit- just that totals up to around $600, on top of that you have wiring, box, and install to pay for........I would look at 150 bucks more if you do everything yourself but pay for someone to make you a box.

Where do you live at bro? If you really want to do this I might be able to help you out with the install and everything so you can save yourself some money.

If you are looking to have a kick *** system for that cheap, I suggest doing as much reading as you can and then try multiple things with your setup to achieve the best performance possible out of your equipment.

First thing to remember, your install is just as/maybe more important that your gear.

I've seen the proven stats //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif on here somewhere(I liked em at least //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif)

Its said like

85%-skill knowledge and install

5% productss

5% sweat and blood

5% beer

Like the other people have said if your sole purpose to a system is to out BOOOOOM your friend, then heres a simple solution. save anywhere from $1000-2000 go to your local audio store and say i want a system louder than what you friend has and be done with it.

Now if you want to save yourself money then read up, find out whats good what bad, learn how to do things and enjoy the car audio hobby

someone had a used type r for 80 plus shipping, 600-900 watt amp from classifieds and then pick up a h/u from someone like a cheaper pioneer 6800

someone around here could build you a box for around 100 and wires at radioshack are 60...thats prolly 100 for sub, 200 for amp, 100 box, 60 wires and 150 for headunit. then install it and get drunk

When I said I felt like quiting I meant as in the reading and learning all this, I really had no idea you can learn all this stuff

I want a kick *** system but I will not spend days/hours or whatever you want to call it just to little every inch about everything that has to do with a system

The site is not just about building a system, its brokin down by the littlest part there is, there are people out there that owns a system that bangs like a mother****er and people that sumbit their systems for shows and I can bet at least half of them dont know the stuff on that site, for sure

I do believe that people can learn the main simplest stuff with basics and build a great system like many of you guys and people that are on the streets rolling.. Stuff such as.. ohm, watt, rms, wiring, amp, sub etc etc all the little terms in making a system you know?

but each time I'm trying something NEW hits up and I get lost.. I'm very well interestd I'm not going freaking crazy over this you know

and I do believe I'm going off too much on what I cant handle, like 2 12s l7, like what would i do? what should i watch out for befor i **** em up etc

I'm prolly only going to get 1 12" l7+amp to start off, then once I learn more I'll more on and add another 12" etc etc you know

If anyone esle would still like to help me, please be more then welcome to post back if you dont then please just leave and dont post back not that I hate you but it saves me time to read the worthless crap
