Build time and wood type

ingredients to build a solid enclosure

1. 2.5 to 3' dry wall screws, get longer ones if you plan to double baffle.

2. tightbond or gorilla wood glue.

3. drill with drill bit for counter sinking the screws.

4. vice clamps.

5. skill saw or jig saw, table saw, circle jig.

6. knowledge

main reason i stopped recommending SSA and Fi is their "build" times are insanely off. last time I ordered a re-cone from Fi it took 3 months, last time I ordered an SSA sub it took 2 months. both didn't attempt to return my calls or e-mails to let me know there was a delay or that it was even shipped. as for build material, i personally prefer MDF due to it's consistency and cost but if you don't mind varying densities in your wood and putting out more money than know yourself out.
I read a ton of really amazing reviews on the SSA ICON so i went ahead and ordered one but that makes me kinda ehhh. Im sitting in california right now visiting family and im waiting on the icon to get here before i head back home to oregon. Might have to call them and change shipping addresses or something if that happens to be the case. Ill wait and see what Denim replies and says.

You forgot silicone caulk or something else to seal the inside of the box like fiberglass resin.

all the reviews of SSA and Fi subs should be 4+ out of 5, they are really good subs but the issue isn't the quality it's the time it takes. seriously, building a sub is not that difficult especially since that's their business. you'd think they would have a realistic time frame of how long it actually takes them to build a sub if they are being "built" on site. i spent some time with a local sub builder and it's insane how much he knows and how long it actually takes to assemble a sub from ground up (making the motor assembly and putting the cone to surround, etc...) and from on hand pieces (cone and surround pre-assembled, motor assembled, etc....). i just got so tired of recommending them to people that I was doing builds for than hearing from these people "that sub you recommend still isn't here after 2 months, i thought you said they were good subs, i can't even get a response from them". so i started using stuff I can get my hands on same day or within a weeks time.

I ordered my first DSS Ethos, it's been 3 weeks, I emailed Quentin yesterday and he hasn't replied, anyone know how long build time for these subs are?

Making a killing ordering a few icons/xcons and selling them to people for just a tad more cuz you got em in stock :3
But thats prob illegal..
I do not think it would be illegal - but you might run into warranty issues.

1. I need to get longer screws - I bought 2" wood grabbers - Why dry wall ones, they have a very fine thread?

2. I was going to use Liquid Nails Extreme Heavy duty for seams

3. Ordered & waiting on my countersink bit

4. Have those

5. I have all the above plus I was going to use my router as soon as I find a circle jig

6. I have plenty of wood working knowledge (not with box building though)

And on the inside I was thinking about epoxy paint, will it work?

Oh and I will be using 3/4 ply for the wood

3/4 MDF is what I use. I just double or triple the layers for the baffle.

Silicone caulk works good to seal seams on the inside. Lots of people use fiberglass resin on the inside. I would recommend this.

epoxy paint? never seen that used in box builds before, but if you wanna go the extra mile and this always makes a difference. glass the entire inside of the box and throw some 45s on every corner. round off port edges and about that liquid nails stuff, yeah you can always use that in box builds but any good wood glue would work just as good. wood glue becomes stronger than the actual wood itself once cured. a good cure takes over 24 hours. I let mine cure for 48 hours to be on the safe side. all I used on my box was 3/4 mdf, 2.5 inch dry wall screws oh and another thing. the screws really don't matter, once the glue sets in you can remove them but that's a personal choice. anyway, I used gorilla wood glue to seal all seems where air can possibly escape, and threw a single threaded rod from top to bottom. single lair of mdf all around. havnt glassed the inside or put 45s in it yet but im working on it. debating if I should do so, as this current build is coming out to make way for 4 xcon 18s

Emails are caught up for SSA and Josh calls everyone back that leaves a message if we can't get to the phone at the time of the call. As for the lead times, they are pretty accurate when not during a massive sale/holiday. We clearly state 21+ business days on the product pages. There are plenty of people who get their subs earlier than the stated lead times. As soon as a sub is shipped, the order status is updated and an email goes out to the customer. Has been that way for 8 years. If you didn't get an email, it is possible that it hit the spam box.
Box for 2 18s, mdf will be a pain in the d!ck for weight.

Sorry to hear that chris, @denim are you guys THAT backed up?
No, orders are going out on time since everything was caught up from the holiday rush.

I just saw your email, thanks for your order. I will check on the position in the build queue and email you back.

Sorry @denim did not see the replys - Order date Feb 22 2015 #12463 .
I am not sure what happened but I do think its been a little longer then 21 business days.
I did just check my e-mail logs in case something got bounced/returned/junked (where I run and host my own email server) and the last one I received was on March 10th

I replied to your email yesterday. Just checked with the build house, there was a slight delay on 18" baskets arriving. They are building all the 18's they can as fast as they can. We will update your order status asap.

Wow you must be a busy person. I think you confused me with someone else because I did not send any emails to you guys.
I did order 2 - 18" and thank you very much for the update.
@denim - If you did get an email from me, did it have a change of address in it?

Hahaha, whoops, I replied to 12763, not 12463. D'oh. That's what happens when you have to rip through as many emails as possible. I am not seeing any change of address emails. If you need to, email us asap if you have to change the address.
