Build started on TJ Wrangler

As some know I wound up with the two 12 inch L-5's that fell in my lap.

1st I was going to ditch the rear seat because I did not see any way to fit them behind the seat. Well I was looking at the seat and decided to try and move it. I moved it forward with the rear bolts going into the front bolt holes and I drilled two new holes for the front bolts. This gave me what I felt would be enough room to down fire a sealed box behind the rear seat. I have the box about half way complete and it will have right at 1.8 cf for each speaker. The thing that worries me is because of the cut outs you have to make for the door I only have 3.5 inches between the speakers and the floor the only opening is going forward towards the under part of the seat as I closed off the other 3 sides to make the legs. Will this be enough space or am I just going to have to fire them directly into the back of the seat instead of down firing.

Here is what I have so far. I need to remove the speakers now and smooth the edges. I am going to cover the box with bedliner. What are the thoughts?

Very interesting box design. As far as clearance goes, it's not a ported box so theres really no issue with a solid object being too close. As long as the subs aren't physically coming in contact with the floor, there shouldn't be any issues. Can't guarantee how it will sound though, it'll beat the **** out of your floor. Be prepared to solve some rattles.

I'd maybe put something between the box "legs" and the floor, like some weatherstripping or something so that the bare MDF isn't touching the sheetmetal or the rattles will be absolutely unbearable. Like d_man said, your going to have your hands full probably with rattles. Hope you're prepared to spend the little extra and deaden and foam the box contact points and various locations of the trunk floor. I suggest leaving the thin factory carpet under the box with weatherstripping under the carpet. You eliminate quite a few rattles and the stock carpet is so thin it doesn't reduce output noticeably.

A friend told me I should cut out some of the side and rear part of the legs to let more air escape from the bottom. I plan on leaving the carpet in.
