Build Log: XXX Install and More...

I can't think of anything that would really help. I've never done it that way. I'd probably wait til it's nice and dry and flex the door panel and see if it cracks anywhere. Ideally, I'd probably separate the panel into it's main parts and remove the vinyl and 40/40 it back together after I was done with it.I like Duraglas (fiberglass reinforced filler, similar to Kitty hair or Bondo Glass) on parts that could benefit from extra bonding strength or rigidity.

My best suggestion would be to add some mat/resin to it and then use filler (or Duraglas or equivalent) to smooth it out.

If (for some reason) it doesn't work out and you need to replace the panels, check out Parts Galore on W. Warren in Detroit. I picked up a pair of 2000ish Neon door panels with switches and pigtails for $6.05 each. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I hope it works out for you, tho. Keep us posted.

****it, I had typed up this long *** response and never hit reply lol.

Well anyways. Last night when I was workin on my buddies bumper I started beatin the shit out of my door panels with a screw driver. Trying to chip off any of the glass to make sure it was solid.

I was able to chip off the bottom couple inches as expected. Gonna sand it all down and spread out some plastic compound along the bottom.

Should solve the issue. The glass stuck to the vinyl parts of the panel well though. I could break the thin layer on there if I hit it really hard, but it didnt chip off.

Well looks like Im gonna stay home today. I dont really feel like going to class. Gonna sit around for a minute and relax, then Im gonna go get some 40/40 or something similar and try and get these doors really close to finished.

awesome, dont forget to take some pics!
Will do!

Hopefully its a little warm out, might have to pull out a heater or something in the garage. I dont wanna have to mix my resin super hard and run out of hardener again....should probably actually go buy some just to be safe.

Cool. Would have sucked if you got all done and it chipped off the first time you slammed the door on the seatbelt!

I was gonna start building my door panels soon, but now I'm not sure what I want to go with for speakers...so I guess it'll have to wait. Besides, my car needs brakes.

Yeah definitely would have sucked!! lol, hopefully Ill get most of the work done on them today, then Ill just have to wait to wrap them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yeah I was originally gonna just do one set of mids, then right before I was gonna do the panels I decided to buy another set //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Well, I was originally gonna do a set of 2 way components up front and a set in back. Then I was gonna skip the rear set. Then I wanted to do 2 6's in the front doors (just cause it would look cool). I am thinking I might go back to a set of 6" comps active up front, but I think my 300/4 is bad, so I might have to sell my 300/2 to get the money to fix the 300/4.

Jay

Well I got a lot done it turns out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Did some serious sanding. Then I put some of the plastic compound I have down on the bottom edges of the panels. Glassed them both from the back side, then did another coat of resin on the fronts.

All thats left at this point is hopefully just another sanding, then some bondo where its needed, and a final sanding after that. Then Ill spray some high build and primer sealer on for the time being.

The its time for vinyl.
