i ordered 2 12" SI mags and a sundown 1500D...amp comes tuesday- subs a couple days later.

now the dilemma...

i have a 2006 nissan maxima.

most likely going to do a ported box 5cubes ~35hz

positioning is the problem i've heard 3 different situations

1. seal off trunk completely and face them directly into car

2. normal and face them towards the rear

3. face them up and port to the right

which will sound the best/ get the loudest/be loudest on inside and outside of car/ and least amount of trunk rattle

i hate that 'ghetto rattle'

thanks i appreciate it!

subs up will be the most rattling and probably the least loud.

subs and port back will be loud, but will probably rattle quite a bit

sealing off the trunk is a lot of work, but should be loud and low on rattling

ps. these are just generalizations, your results may vary

and WHY do people always care about how loud it will be OUTSIDE of the car!?!?!? i hope you get lots of tickets!

and how big is the trunk? can you really get 5ft^3 in there? after displacement that will probably be close to 8ft^3 gross! (with a decent size port)

each sub is like 1.5cubes ported...so im guessin the 5cubes is total...thats the suggestion that ben from low-hz told me

as for why i want to be loud outside the car i wont answer because its my personal preference and i know everyone will not agree so ill ignore that.

i was already thinking facing them inside because it would have no rattle just when the seats are up and down will it make that big of a difference in sound?

if you don't completely seal it off from the back it will probably not be as loud as facing towards the tail lights (especially with the seats up).

ok, so you were talking 5ft^3 gross. sounds more reasonable, but if you have a bit more space i think 2ft^3 (net) per woofer would be better.

u can put them in a 4th order bandpass and have the port going thru the arm rest and that will reduce your rattling problem by 50% or more ...and at the same time..u will have all the output going into the car vs hearingit thru your seats and rear deck

i've heard 3db to a meter
with my subs facing towards the taillights there is a noticeable difference.
yea but facing the taillights you have a lot of rattle dont you? unless you have a hatchback...

im starting to lean towards the facing inside the car...plus itll save me money on deadening

im not competing--its a daily driver for a high school kid---so meter isnt of much importance noise to the ear is probably more important to me.

i like it to be loud outside simply for the hoochies and hoodrats.a loud system to them is like a ice cream truck to lil kids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If rattling is your largest concern, then sound deaden the vehicle... It is going to rattle regardless of position though.
thats not my largest concern...sound on inside and outside of car is biggest concern...i want the box that will be the loudest and best quality

im just not going to have the money right away to sound deaden the car --i dont think--- so i wanted to reduce rattle for the time being.

yes i'm reposting this cuz its one of the only logical things to do

and the mags will be hella loud in this setup
