Box design for single Avalance 15 plz

I'm not even sure if it should be ported or sealed so I'll let you experts decide that. Only thing I ask is that the depth(front to back) not exceed 2 feet, otherwise doesn't matter. I'm replacing 2 10's that don't hit hard or low enough anymore. I would go 2 15's, but why wouldn't one suffice and I only have to sacrifice half my trunk? I'm not looking for a competition, just very low deep feel it in your *ss bass. I listen to mainly R&B, a little rap, a little smooth jazz. Thank you!!!

This is the box I'm building this weekend for the same driver. 3.5 cubes after all displacement, tuned to 33Hz. Only thing is to make sure you cut the sub hole so the pole vent is at least 5 inches from the beginning of the port.

Not a problem, glad to help out...I hope it works well for you. Just make sure you can fit it in your trunk before you build it; I found that out the hard way with my brother's box. It was small enough to fit in, but not to actually get it in there...a sad day.

It gets plenty deep in 32Hz even in 2.3 cubes...actually, it's the deepest sub I've heard even in that application. Could tune lower if you've got more space though, and I could help you out if you need it....I just had to tune that frequency because those are the max dimensions I could fit and I wanted 54in^2 port area and 3.5 feet net.

im tuning mine @ 16hz...why does the pole vent hsve to be 5"s from the port....? do you mean it needs 5"s of clearance for cooling?

Nah, I've just heard around quite a bit that it's best to have the back of the sub 5-6" away from the port so you're actually getting reflected waves through the port...not sure the exact reason behind it but I've heard a lot of box builders say it around here.

Breathing room he'll be find in the box...it allows for just over 3" behind the driver which is plenty.

EDIT: I wish I had the room to tune lower, would love to go low 20's...16 is just nuts though.

that box looks very close to mine...why do you have to have it 5" from the beginning of the port? i thought it needed about 1" to vent or is it different with ported setups?

You should be a couple inches from any wood to vent...but I've heard also to be 5 or 6 inches away from the port...something to do with how the waves move through the box but I'm not sure the exact reasoning. I just remember hearing it, and it doesn't hurt so why not, even if it doesn't have to be done.
