Bought 2 RE audio 18 SX's....... and....

Are you saying a positive and a negative are connected together on the subs? If they are I don't know how you're ending up with a 1 ohm load. When checking with your dmm are you checking the load for each sub or both together?
no he is saying they are in parallel. he said 2 wires wrap around and do the same. series wiring would have 1 wire wrap around.

Porting the subs and facing them up will not ruin them. If your trunk is not big enough to make a new box facing them backwards then u cant face em back. The guy who said it will sound like *** means that your trunk lid will take a beating from the subs and port firing directly at them and be very noisy. You will definitely need to sound dampen your lid.Re audio recommends 5.5-8.0 ft^3 per sub ported at 35hz. So you are looking at 11-16ft^3 (net).

Your box you have presently isnt big enough to take full advantage of them. Actually your bix is just a little bigger than optimal for just one. with enough port area that box would be perfect size for one of them. You would have been better off with 2 15" subs imo.
the box could deffinatly be expanded a little bit more, not much. Probaably wouldnt be able to get 16 feet, but maybe a little over 12.

Also if they are facing up that isnt a problem for the trunk lid taking a beating the thing is heavy as hell, and i am willing to sound dampen it.

Since thease subwoofers arnt being inverted like my last ones, the box can be made another few inches taller, witch will add alot more cu to it, and there are some areas of the trunk that arnt being utilized for box space either, i am sure if it was fully used up the 11-12cu goal could be obtained. but they would have to deffinatly be ported face up. Or atleast the subwoofers face up, and the port vertically on the back facing out of the car.

Im sure they will make it work, dont they have compact specs for ported boxes aswell for smaller enclosures ?

compact specs are 5.5 ft^3 each. Now remember you have to subtract the space used by the sub in the box as well as the port to get the (net) box volume. you would need around 13 ft^3 (gross) to get 11 net.

Trunk Size (L) 507

It does not have the space of the wheel well in those specs though.

So that would add even more, i am going to try and figure the calculations out now to see how many cu the trunk alone is.

500 litres = 17.60 cu

that does not include the wheel well

http://www.metric-conversions.org/cgi-bin/util/conversion-chart.cgi?type=4&from=2&to=14

do the conversions there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so hopefully with the wheel well completely gutted, and fibreglass we can get a nice big box in there. I am positive with the subwoofers facing up and the port facing upwards ( if this does not damage the subwoofers) that the box specs could be easly met, i just dont know about them being facing backwards we will see though ! i cant wait to see what they come up with to make it work lol.

28.3L= 1 ft^3 so just over 17 ft^3 in trunk. not all usable obviously. lol u should see my trunk...lets just say it isnt close

so you dont think the box will be able to fit ? even if it is a bit smaller than spec?

i think the propper porting is what will be key to really relieve alot of air preasure out of the box aswell as supply the propper cooling.

sorry i was just a bit confused by your remark, or are you saying your trunk isnt as big as mine or that it is larger ?

because thats like i said not including the wheel well, so wouldnt the hole trunk & wheel well make up enough ^3?

if not, i will contact re-audio and discuss with them what type of box will be best for my space. I am sure that we can make somthing work atleast alot better than what i have now.

The SX is the only sub that RE makes that doesnt like sealed boxes. Im guessing it is cooling or cone strength? I think a lil smaller than spec wont hurt, just wont be able to take full advantage of the subs potential.

Thanks for clearing that up bassman, i have the same presumptions about the cone strength/cooling issues but ofcoarse before i have the enclosure constructed this time, i will get specific details as to what is ok, and what is not ok from a RE technican and make sure to record the phone call.

You guys have all been awsome, and hey stop the RE hate thease things pound like hell even with this mangled futureshop setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

also just to clarify i just recived an email to a bunch of questions about propper porting for thease subwoofers, and facing them up towards the trunk, with upwards facing porting is not going to be a problem.

but he did say, that it would make the rattling and flex alot worse on the trunk, but thats fine i will dampen it.

It is good to know that this option presents its self incase my car cannot fit the enclosure designed for a vertical port and vertical subwoofers.

Also having a few cu less than spec is fine aswell, he stressed the propper porting and propper tuning though, to achive the cooling that the coils/cones need to preform at high levels for extended times.

i cant wait to hear 2 18's in this car with a ported box it will be violent lol. I hope it can pull some deciant numbers at a Db show or SPL show in town, i am sure compared to all the local junk it will do good.

the lol was about how we both posted at the same time with the conversion to cubic feet.

And no my trunk is puny compared to yours. I wish I could fit (2) 18's in there!!

hehehe oh ok bassman ! too bad you live in sacramento id love to meet up one day !

anyways guys i will be keeping you all up to date on this basicly as soon as i learn whats happening next, i will update you all.

I have a feeling they are doing all fibreglass because the bottom of the trunk already is, and there is no need to waste that shell.

a nice big fibreglass ported box i think is worth a drill dropped onto my dust cap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif haha

tracked the new dustcaps and they will be here thursday or friday, either or. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
