id love to talk audio all day i obsess over it aswell, as you can see x2 18'' SX 2600RMS and so forth ! lol

URGH each waiting day sucks so much waiting lol, i am still suprised the crack has not even gotten any bigger thats sayin alot for their dust cap strength and the haters saying they are weak.

i was thinking the same

Yes, it is alot louder now. BUT the ****ing subwoofers are still getting hot enough to cook eggs on. And i dont think that it has anything to do with the amplifier or box ive tunned the amplifier down so far and they take longer to heat up but they still do.

I dont think thease things can handle the abuse i want to throw at them, my old MA audio XE 18's handled the full brute power from my brutus, and they survived for almost a half a year, and one of their dustcaps was held together with PL floor adhesive.

Thease SX's cant even handle a full song at full volume, with the amp deciantly tunned, as soon as they get loud they get hot. I dont know what the **** is going on, I wonder if it is the proto-type motors in them, who knows. Im deffinatly gettin pissed off now.

Andrew for a Pair of SX18’s you need the following air space and port area at a minimum.

13.75 gross cubic ft internal

165 square inches of vent area

25 inches long

Anything smaller will cause a loss of output and cause the issue That I am seeing on your rant over

I know most manufcturers at least get parts from China. I said as much in my previous reply. What I dont get is, if they DO make/assemble the SE in China, why did I get a sarcastic reply from an RE/US Amps dealer saying I was misinformed and they design/build their products by hand in the USA.
So I guess I have to ask the question.... who is right? And if its ruel, why are being lead to believe all products are designed, built and assembled in the USA?
First off I am not a dealer I am Greg Carolus the Tech Support and Production Manager here at US Amps and RE Audio.

Here is the exact break down of what's what in our RE Audio line up

RE-RE our design made in China

SR our design made in China

SE used to be made here but now made in China

SX Spiders and coils made here cone basket and motor made in China

MX Spiders and coils made here cone basket and motor made in China

XXX Spiders and coils made here cone basket and motor made in China

MT Spiders and coils made here cone basket and motor made in China

I did not mean to come off like a smart *** I just over stated the facts,

You are going to be dissapaiting around 400-500 watts of heat on average between the two woofers with that amp.. they are going to get hot..

let them wang.. they should be OK..

If you are going to blame the box it should be because the box is way too small.. not necasarilly because it's sealed.. the increased Q of such a small box will certainly put more pressure on the cap - but it still shouldn't have cracked... that coupled with the fact that the other cap looks like it started to melt tells me that RE should be using caps that are much thicker...
Really, well let's take any woofer and resrict it's movements and see how hot things get under that dust cap?????? 3-450 degree's will melt/deform just about any dustcap out there.

because to my eyes, it makes a vlx-400 look short //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

funny because I've melted the copper on many voicecoils without having dustcaps melt too..

The box is around 10 cubic feet and the port looks big enough to me.. I hardley think the box is going to be any issue...

are you sure your not clipping the amp? Is their proper distance behind the woofer to get air? Are you playing full tilt for the entire song? There are still things that you need to consider before blaming the woofers. I am sure there are many people on here that has given their sx's more abuse than you in proper setups.

I'm wondering if the heat issue is because of the placement of the caps down low close to the vc. maybe remove the caps and put on larger diamater ones. It could be the heat is more obvious as the caps absorb the heat directly.

The SX use Aluminum which has a greater heat dispersion than copper.

And his 10 cubic ft is before displacements which after displacements is WAY TOO SMALL.
