Boss ba4000 series?

Yeah I sort of posted this in my blaupunkt thread but I'll just start a new one. I found one of these fOr pretty good price...I know a lot of people don't like boss but I also know a lot of people like them. The Manual on the website says 200x4 max but that doesn't matter...I just wanna power my 12'' pioneer sub, 800watt max or something like that. Just wondering if this would be a good idea to go with or not.

And if not, what do you guys recommend thats not super expensive?

what model sub? max ratings are fake number. look at rms rating on amps and subs. some cheaper brand amp makers, with boss included, do not correctly rate there amps. that amp above will most likly put out about 50 watts rms on all 4 channels. maybe 100 bridged.

I'm not sure if that is the one or not...All i know is that its a ba 4000. I'm assuming it could be that one because the guy said that it was an old school amp. I just want to be sure that its legit. No model number...guy didnt give me them.

And yes, I'm aware that I should look at the RMS ratings. The problem is that the manual only gives max power which is useless. I'm wondering if anyone knows if these are good or not.

ok that sub is rated at 150 rms. so i would think that boss with 2 of the ch's bridged would actually power it fine. i have a kenwood ps-150 2ch that would power that sub perfect when bridged for 40 picked up or if you wanted a 4 ch i have a kenwood 4 ch that can do 180 bridged roughly to the sub and then do 60 watts on the other 2 chs.

The only good Boss amps that I know of were the few made by Zed Audio, but those usually had a clear top so you could see the blue circuit board inside.

Maybe.

Zed marks the board with a 'made by Zed Audio', but that photo isnt close up enough (or high enough in resolution) to read the markings.

From what I've read they werent bad amps, they were just over rated by Boss (which p*ssed off Mr. Mantz).

They were decent amps, I heard one in a truck awhile back.

...built like tanks & were pretty powerful, but they weren't the cleanest sounding amplifiers.
