The second battery IS grounded whether you ground it to the chassis, or the first battery with cable.
Wrong again, third try is apparently not a charm. Series = 24 volts, Parallel = 12 volts. Look harder at the link you provided, or this one. http://www.zbattery.com/seriesparallel.html Parallel means pos-pos and neg-neg.Sorry, my quote was wrong. The correct ans is; series connection = 12 volts and parallel connection = double the voltage.

lol i only do what is nessary some connect grounds between batteries others just ground to the frame. some will say do both me i say whatever works.....Would it be better to ground the 2nd battery as well or is that not needed?
