Alpine Type X Question?

Soo its time for a new sub for me, I just purchased a JL 500/1 amp.. Will this be enough to power a 12" type x? And with that much power how much better will it be then my current 12" type R? Anybody have any experience with this combination?

I was looking into a 12w6 or a 10w7 also, but I want the type x since its a little more affordable. Any suggestions? thanks.

no it is not enough for a type X. no it is also not enough for a type R
How is it not enough when the RMS on the type r is 500 watts? and the amp is underrated correct?

I don't want to blow my trunk up.. I just want better quality

That amp isn't really highly underrated. If you have it installed right, I would imagine it getting a full 500. I wouldn't know from experience or anything, but just because someone says an amp is underrated doesn't mean it's going to do 2x what it says it will.

And Type R's take more than 500. I've seen one take ~1,000 watts daily. And i know there are a few folks on here that have R's and give them more than 500.

Alpine only say 500 to be on the safe side so that they're not held responisble if you incorrectly supply them with more power.

Some people say the type X's are better than the R's. I dont agree.. Anyways, i have a friend who bought a Type X well over a year ago and was (still is) powered by a JL 1000/1. The JL does the job but somehow i think it can handle more.

I doubt your 500/1 will come anywhere close to waking this sub up. BTW JL do underate their amps but not in the quantities that you're think of. I've seen 500/1's produce anything between 500-553WRMS when wired correctly.

If i was you i would get a better amp. You've got a pretty good sub, supply it with good power. You wont regret it.

Look into the new SI mag, it's suppose to do great off 500-600w.

JL amps are pretty tightly regulated, so I would expect 500w, but no more. Just my opinion, although I have never dealt with the amp or directly know anyone who has so i could be wrong.

I have a pair of Type-R's connected to a SAZ-1500d @ 1-ohm, so that each is getting 750 rms. They handle it no problem.

Hmm alright, so it looks like the type X is out of the question with this amp.... Don't get me wrong I'm happy with my type R, I just want better quality because I get bored with my audio equipment real fast haha. Maybe I'll throw in a w6v2 and see how it sounds... or i have a friend that has a 10w7... Although I did want to try a type X I guess I won't be able to now with this current setup.
