no you turn it to flat when you are setting your gains if your setting your gains with a DMM etc. you can run active and run whatever eq mode you want. you must set to active if you dont want to damage your speakers now. other wise they will keep playing full range signal if you have it wired up like you do now.

ok I switched it to active, and looks like its gonna take some work

can someone help me with some starting points.

With the 880 I need to set my

High HPF and slope?

Mid HPF and slope?

Low LPF and slope?

and Mid LPF and slope?

also I need to get more mids as I have none right now...thanks

yeah a good guideline would be Low LPF at 100hz, High HPF at 4khz, Mid HPF at 100hz and mid LPF at 4khz.

you also need to make sure your 880 is in network mode, which is switching the clip on the outside of the cage, which if you dont do that, you will be sending a full range signal to your speakers.

deck is in network mode now....thx for the input, it will give me some place to start

now last I think for now, is that my time alignment wont work in network mode.

I need to align where the sound is coming from, but my ta wont work. It worked in standard mode, but not in network. Is there something I need to do?

and I cant imagine how that shit sounds on flat man, flat SUCKS. Try powerful as a starting point. will sound MUCH better until you can tweak it yourself.

horrible.
I concur.

Powerful is horrible, its just basically boosting everything immense amounts.

You sound like you need to do a good amount of reading on an active set up, do you know how low you can cross the tweeters?

flat is horrible. it sounds lifeless.

I'm using my ID ctx 6.5 cs and their tweets, not sure on the specs on them....mind sharing?

what should I do? and how do I get my time alignment to work?

and yes I am new to active....but having 2 4 channels that are active capable, it had to happen sometime

Im not sure about the drivers you are using, I mean the crossover points I gave you virtually cannot kill your speakers, so use those and then mess around with them a bit and see how it sounds.I wouldnt go any lower than 80hz for your mid, and probably wouldnt go any lower than like 2.5khz for your tweeter.(thats usually the base), or something like that.

Pretty much you want to utilize your drivers as much as their abilities without playing distortion, but we dont know on paper what crossover points you should use...just try what sounds nice to you.

Also how much power are you giving your mids, and tweeters? and what tone did you set them at? 1khz? -3db?

I plan on giving them the full 100-125 rms to each channel using my sax 100.4.

I have not set the gain with my dmm yet, only by ear. Otherwise what do you mean what tone did I set them at? What should I do. I'm a total newb with this:crap:

well now because your are running your mids and tweeters on seperate channels, you have to set your gains for your tweeters and mids seperately. your tweeters cannot take as much power as your mids. I have my mids at about 90-100w each, and tweeters, probably 20-30 watts each. tweeters tend to sound very overwhelming at higher volumes when you send them a ton of power, well in my experiences.

I would set your gains with a DMM. most likely your drivers are 4 ohm. Use a 1khz -3db tone to set your mids and tweets. To give your mids 100w, your Dmm should read 20.0volts and to give your tweets 25w, it should read 10.00volts

Equation is to find the square root of (Watts x ohms). I.E100wx4ohm=400 sqrt of 400 is 20etc.

this should be set with your head unit at 3/4 volume, about 40-45 or so, with EVERYTHING unplugged except the RCA's for the channels your setting, and EQ on flat.

Also NEVER unplug your rca's with the head unit, amp on. NEVER. Pico fuse might blow in your head unit. very common with these units. always unplug rcas with your car off.

A flat response is the ultimate goal in accurate music reproduction.

Not hating everyone has their own goals, and i can see how flat can sound worse than powerful but i would take a personally tuned eq over a factory preset anyday.
