Tv tuner Question and System questions.

HI, So ive been out of the car audio game for a while and i was thinking about getting some stuff for my Mustang.

I went to a local car audio place and besides trying to sell me a Pioneer avhp4100dvd for 580.00(unreal right?) uninstalled he offered a few other words of advice on what components to buy.

10inch SOlobaric L5 and a JL 500-1 amp amp for $250 and sub was $200. I know JL is like the new PPI as far as amps go or so im told and Kicker solobarics have been good for a long time. He told me to get a 10 because my trunk is kinda small. I kinda wanted at least a 12, i mean i don't think 1 12 with 500 watts running to it will be to ear pirecing. I used to have Camaro SS hatch backs with 2 12s and i would be setting peoples car alarms off in their garage from the street. I don't want it even close to that loud but that is what im used to.

OPinions on the amp and SPeaker?

Also about the head unit i like the double din hook ups with the tv tuner. How is this digital change over gunna effect that? DO they sell digital car tuners yet that will work in my car? Can i get a old school tuner and hook up a converter box?

Any other suggestions on head units? I hear jvc units are better then the pioneers now.

i read in another thread you saying no one responded.

the problem is for one no one likes to read all that. for two its pretty vague.

-tell us exactly what you are looking for(ie HU, Subs, Components etc).

- what you are trying to accomplish with the system (sound quality, get loud, in car entertainment)

- most importantly tell us your budget.

keep it short and sweet and you should probably get a good amt of responses. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif good luck

K thanks

I want a double din dvd player head unit, navi i could care less about really. The tv tuner question is big because of the switch over in a month i don't wanna buy a tv tuner/head unit and waste money.

1 12' sub not trying to blow ear drums but i don't want a shit sub eaither.

1 amp for sub i assume a mono amp will do.

Budget- 2k I guess would be my limit. I don't need anything to fancy though just trying to figure out what the quality companys are now days.

The TV tuners in that are out now that can be purchased are not set up for digital yet.SO once the switch happens it will no longer work in most areas.

4-500 new for a DD isn't bad you can find cheaper off brands but they aren't as good IMO.

For a single 12" get you something rated at about 500-700 watts and a nice little amp to go with it.

i havent seen any name brand converter boxes for cars yet but you can get a home version with an inverter...smallest inverter you can get will work since they draw like almost no power and the dtv converter is about the size of a vhs tape..i have considered doing this to mine but i live so far out i wouldnt pick up anything

:-(

I was looking at dd's and i found a Eclipse AVN6620(good sound quality right?) for like $530 shipped. If not i think ill just go with the Pioneer HU.

I was looking at subs and it seems after searching everyone likes RE's so prolly a RE SE 12' with a ported box. Not sure which amp or ohm im gunna go with on the speaker could use some input on that.

ALso how hard do you think one maxed out re se 12' will hit if done right as far as one 12' goes?

The converters are hit and miss inside a moving vehicle. But they do work.
Yeah the difference is the old vhf signal was like radio...it broadcast out and if you were in range you could pick it up...the new digital signal is uhf and is more directional...

Thanks man(for input and car comment)

i think im gunna get off the tuner thing for now.

Just watch DVD's its a lot more stable picture. As for subs look into Incriminator Audio as well. They have the 187 line and the Lethal injections that both slam and are pretty econmoical subs. Not to mention Nick is a cool *** dude!

give them enough power and get the box done right and it will be VERY loud..they are rated at 600rms and they will take that and more all day long.

Ah i didn't even notice that is what you have lol any advice on amps? I was looking at the US and Sundown amps and i think they might be to powerful for just one speaker. I want a good amp but i don't wanna waste money ya know?

edit: Cadence ia7 i think might get the job done.

4 Ohm RMS Power: 1 x 300 Watts

2 Ohm RMS Power: 1 x 500 Watts

1 Ohm RMS Power: 1 x 1000 Watts

for double din do some research of what you want stick with alpine, pioneer, or eclipse.

i think some of the pioneer have cool sensor to tell you how fast, your laterla g, HP, TQ and some other goodies called vehicle dynamics or some shit like that. keep in mind those pioneers take some work to crack the lock for watching dvd on the go. It is doable but involves buying couple things.

for 1 12" sub i am really gearing towards re XXX that shit is nuts. i have a jl 12w7 which is an excellent sub for SQL(Sound quality and mic of sound pressure level - SPL).

some people are selling w7 for around $350 on the board.

for amps look at sundown they are really well priced, JL amps are amazing too built tough and have great regulation but you will pay a premium for the name.

If you want something that cost less pick up jl audio, my reasoning jl fanboys pay top dollar for used equipment on ebay. so cost of ownership is not that high especially if you already buy the stuff at a good discount from some of the board members or online sites. looks at used to keep the cost down.

i like the car and that is why i replied to your post my buddy had a 2003 cobra doing 10.0 s and lower in the quarter had to get rid of it since he only had 1 point left on the license. instead he got the biggest thing that does not move a 2009 tahoe.

Yea the Vehicle Dynamics Processor is pretty sweet a buddy of mine in Florida had one in his Supra he said i took him 2 months to get it to work though. He said if he had it to do all over its not worth the hassel for what it does. He said he could have just spent a few hours wiring a few gauges and had pretty much the same deal minus the graphics and few few kinda useless but kool features.
