Just getting back into car audio after many years and could use some help.

Front doors:MQ Quart QM's 6.5" comps

Rear doors: MB Quart QM's 6.5" comps

Rear Fill: JL Audio 6"x9"

What the heck frequencys do I cross these over with??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I would imagine I'd use the same frequency on both sets of Quarts. But where do I start? And what do I chip the 6x9's at? I have a couple chips but need to order them and at $14.00 bucks apiece I would like to get close.(lol)Any help would be GREAT! Thanks.

6.5 mid I would start at 80hz-100hz up, Tweeters 2.5khz-3.1khz up. I would use these as starting points. Someone else may have a better idea than I do. I went with these because the Mid should have no issue playing down to 80hz and 2.5khz is about as low as I would go with a metal dome tw.IMO I am no expert but these setting should keep you from blowing anything. It would help to have the Freq response on these or a little more info.

Not sure what to tell about the 6x9's.

First of all.....why are you wanting to use an external crossover whenever you are using Passive components? I don't understand that at all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

or is that just a model number? lol

Very good question.

I was wondering the same thing but the assumption he was running active. I might have made the wrong assumption.

I mean yeah, I edited myself thinking, "ok I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe he's just using the speakers." But he said, "comp" in his posts so I dunno, just wondering. ^_^

Like I said I am just getting back into it so I myself am alittle confused. I bought the AudioControl 4.1 for the indash controls, and the AudioControl 6XS crossover for the rear. Did I got the wrong route? Am I better off just using the crossovers just as the comps are or running them through the 6XS.

Not sure what you guys mean by passive/active,etc. but sure do appreciate your help!!

Well if you are using passive components and unless you have 2 four channel amps, you can't go active with that setup. However, you could use the 6xs for the rear I suppose.....

Active just simply means you choose your crossover points and slopes(but at the cost of having to have each speaker powered, meaning two tweeters requires a 2 channel amp.) Passive means the crossover points are pre-determined and so is the slope but you only need a 2 channel amp per comp set.

I actually have more amps than I'll ever need(lol) I have 1 -4 channel at 35x4 but I have 6 -2 channel amps at 100X2. All RMS rating's. So should I run 1 amp to the tweeters and 1 amp to the mids on each set up?

Do I just wire them to each of the crossovers that came with the Quarts? Right now I have the tweeters/mids run to each part of the Quart crossover and than one set of wires from the comp crossovers to the amp. Thanks again!!!

DJ

Yeah you could do that, like so.

Tweeter set 1(Speaker L,R of amp 1)

Tweeter set 2(Speaker L,R of amp 2)

Mid set 1(Speaker L,R amp 3)

Mid set 2(Speaker L,R amp 4)

If you are going to go active there is no need for the crossover unit that comes with the quarts. Personally dude, it sounds like you should just go with Passive and stick with that until you get familiar with the hobby again. There's a lot of tuning involved with Active. Personally you should just keep the passive crossovers and run one two channel amp to each component set.

X2-You might want to start with passive for a while before jumping in with both feet to go active. If you decide to active this will help you. Read it and make sure you understand it before you go active. Sound like you have the equipment to go active but you might want to take steps to get there. The set-up and tuning can bite you in arse if you don't understand everything before you start.IMO

your posts make alot of sense now. And the link helped ALOT! So a passive example would be the Quart comp crossovers? And active would be the 6XS? is that correct?

I have always had the passives hooked up and than ran to a active crossover. Will they sound better when I do it without the active at this point? I like the idea but I have alot of money in the AC stuff now(lol)And SQ is extremely important to me.

Can I still use the AC 4.1 to my advantage if I run passive? Or am I better off waiting on that as well? Thanks again you guys I appreciate it!

I cannot really tell you which way is going to be the best for you. I started as a passive guy them made the move to active and I will never go back. Even my wifes SUV is passive its great for watching the DVD with the kids driving around like a mobile HT.

It really is going to be whether you think you can do the active set-up. You have the equipment to do it. It would for you to do some more searching on here and search DIYMA about 99.9 of us are running active over there. You can start out doing passive and since you already have the AC stuff slowly transition over. It will be more work to do a whole transition thing but it may be worth it before going full bore into active.

Just my .2 cents. I am no expert so do some searching and hopefully some other guys will chime in on some more ideas.
