It says tweeter is 1", which is pretty standard, probably just the mounting hardware that's so huge. Don't buy a new amp, probably prove to be a waste of money since you're using the amp even less now that you've bypassed its x-overs. You may even try to redo the auto-EQ deal, see if it works better now. I see you going in the audiophile grade speaker direction at some point. If you do, you'll never go back.from everything ive read, everyone just uses the stock locations for the speakers and tweeters. i dont have any pics off hand to show you but a simple google search of a mk4 golf will bring up plenty of info if you were curious. Its not a terrible spot for the tweeters to but its not the best. The tweeters for this particular set of kappas are absolutely HUGE. ive never seen tweeters this big for this level of speaker, i had to cut the tweeter housing thickness in half to get them to fit in factory spot. I really wanted to get custom pods for them so they sit at a better angle but that type of fabrication is out of my skill level and shops wanted $250+ to make a set for me. ill pass for now..
Are you crossed over at 120?Few notes. Once you set the amp x-over to full, it doesn't matter what HPF or LPF dials are set to. Now go back and set the HPF on the deck to 120, 80 is a bit too low. If you're using 12db slopes, you don't want to have the same x-over point for the LPF and HPF. 80 is fine for LPF, but set the HPF to 120 (or whatever the closest number that it lets you do). It will sound clearer and should take care of that unwanted reverberation as the speakers won't be digging so low.
1 inch is standard and knew that ahead of time... but its the actual casing of the tweeter that is massive, i wasnt able to use the mounting kit provided. I set the front at 120 with 12db slope and the rear is set at 100. The only option for the low pass is with the subwoofer. should be fine? Are you crossed over at 120?
Go back to 80. Set the sub at 63. -24db slope. The rears are fine a bit higher, they don't matter anyway.I set the front at 120 with 12db slope and the rear is set at 100. The only option for the low pass is with the subwoofer. should be fine?
Where is your sub at?Me? Yeah.
Sub is at 80. Yes, sealed is right. The mids are awesome. This is where I like it, I've spent plenty of time messing with points and slopes, this is what sounds most appealing to me right now for all my music tastes. Remember, I can't change anything on the fly or I'd use all the presets and change while I drive. Unfortunately, Arc is being shady with the controller.Where is your sub at?
Your doors are sealed right? You run ported, claim to have awesome mids, have a PS8
But you run passive and have mids crossed over half way into the mid bass
Custom pods would likely be money well spent.from everything ive read, everyone just uses the stock locations for the speakers and tweeters. i dont have any pics off hand to show you but a simple google search of a mk4 golf will bring up plenty of info if you were curious. Crossing the speakers lower if the speaker performs well and if he likes it.Custom pods would likely be money well spent.
IMO crossing mids at 120 and sub at 80 is asking for anemic midbass. You'll need to cross your mids lower or your sub higher, possibly try reversing polarity on tweeters or the sub (sometimes this helps if you have a bad phasing issue). If you can't get plenty of sound out of those at 50W crossed at 80hz better locations would help a lot.
Try experimenting with the crossover points and see if it sounds better at lower volume so you don't bottom out the mids.
The speaker should play it just fine. Output may be lacking but it's not a missing octave.Crossing the speakers lower if the speaker performs well and if he likes it.
