A Threatcon 2 should murder my Rockford Fosgate P3 right?

I currently have a Rockford Fosgate P3 in my truck. It by no means sounds bad at all. I have it currently in a 1.81 cu ft box tuned at 37 hz. It's fairly boomy. Wouldn't mind tightening the bass up just a tad but still, it sounds decent and has decent output too I'm running a Rockford Fosgate 801S with a birth sheet 988 watts 4 ohm mono and it doesn't seem to have any problems handling the wattage and it's been doing that for a year.

Still, I have heard good things about the Threatcon 2 12. What I would like to do is just swap out the sub. Suffice to say, the Threatcon 2 should murder my P3 right? SPL and sound quality?

This is the box I havein a single cab 2006 Silverado.

I doubt that swap is going to make so much difference that it "murders" your old setup. Is the C2 a good sub? Absolutlely but its not going to make that much of a difference in spl and sound quality is a personal thing. You may find you like the p3 better

^^^beat me to it Spooney. Lol!

I don't think you're going to get that big of a difference between the two. RF Punch Series subs take a pretty bad rap on here but the p3 imo is a decent sub. The Threatcon will no doubt take more power. It's a 2 1/2" coil compared to a 3" coil and the C2 is built to be underrated. But on the same power and in the same box the p3 will probably be about the same in terms of volume as the C2.

Well, I need to do a swap anyways because the P3 is dual 4 ohm and the amp really isn't made for that. Gets quite hot under duress. So a 4 ohm load will be much better for it and what Rockford recommends. My wife wants some bass in her Trailblazer SS. So I may just put it in there instead.

Well try out the C2 by all means. Seems to be a solid sub. People have given them really good reviews so far and everyone that has them seem to be pretty pleased.

Well, being I was running that amp 2 ohm mono, I had it turned down quite a bit to keep it from getting too hot. I ordered dual 4 ohm by mistake and just went with it thinking nothing. So the Threatcon will get a bump in power for sure.

Don't rate power handling by coil diameter alone.

U mean a bigger box ported lower? Whatever the case is, I need another sub if I'm going to keep using that amp. It's been a good amp but I want use it in 4ohm, what it was made for. Just gets 2 hot at 2 ohm and I don't want to fry it.

it'll put out less power at 4 ohms, id keep it at 2 and put a fan on it if it's getting that hot

I would change box before a new sub. If that pic is the box you have, that box looks like a prefab and a very bad one at that

^^^This.....And if your amp is getting hot get some fans or a different amp. Plenty of options...just need to have the cash.

well Buck's as well but look into a custom quality built box over that pre-fab

Yes, I could change the amp. I did put my Hifonics Brutus 16001.D on it and it was too much. Definitely hitting harder but I started smelling burning(it wasnt the amp, it was running nice and cool). Think it was the voice coil, so I backed off. But it was definitely jamming it harder and I couldn not hear it bottom out. The Rockford is getting very very hot. Like fry an egg hot and it's popping fuses at my distribution box. Tried it with a 4 ohm sub single coil and it was only getting warm. If the amp is actually getting more power in 2ohm, I don't see it because the 16001.D was definitely pushing the sub way harder. Yes, I could change the amp but changing the sub is actually cheaper. My Rockford Amp has a birth sheet of 988 watts in 4 ohm mono. Plus it will not run crispy hot in 4ohm mono rather than 2 ohm mono. I mean if it's getting super hot, is it actually putting out max power ?

Rockford Fosgate gives a sturn warning in the manual and says do not run it at 2 ohm mono.

Yes, I have a prefab box.
