Rear speakers quiet...

My friend is having issues with his rear speakers.Initially he bought his car with a crappy HU and all the wiring pretty much rigged up from stock wiring harness to the HU.Well his rear speakers have always just been quiet not loud unless you went full tilt, and he recently replaced them with Polk db651 speakers and its pretty much the same.Anybody know what could be causing this?I was thinking maybe he just needs to bypass a factory amplifier(his stocks were originally RF so I'm guessing it had a factory amp)?Any input or troubleshooting advice is greatly appreciated.

He said he played with the fader from front to rear vice versa and while the fronts get loud the ones in the rear sound as loud as someone speaking. He also switched up the wires on the speakers and nothing,finito,nada..

Did you rule out your idea of the factory amp by just running speaker wire straight from the deck to those speakers?

Not yet, gonna get around to that tomorrow when he buys some speaker wire, but I'm thinking the factory amp isn't the issue, but maybe just all around bad wiring because if it was the factory amp im guessing I wouldn't have any sound from all 4 speakers.

yea i was thinking the same, but bad wiring doesnt equate to a lose in output in the rear vs the front i would think, if the speakers were intermittently cutting out or crackling, yes, but who knows. Make sure you check every possible function on the headunit, such as speaker distance time alignment
