A System Change -- Pro Input Please

I just bought 2 12L7's. They will initially be in a sealed enclosure, but will be put into a ported enclosure ASAP. I will be running them with 2 RF550S Amps. All is Brand New... Now I am having second thoughts...Sooooo, give me your opinions.

I have a 97 Volkswagen Jetta. I listen to stuff like Slipknot, Mudvayne, Static X, Spineshank, Rob Zombie -- you get the idea. I would like a combo of quality and LOUD. With an emphasis on loud -- without it sounding crappy. Should I get rid of the L7's and 550's and get (1) 12 or 13.5W7 with an amp that will max the sub out. I would have it in a ported enclosure. What would be a decent amp at a good price? I know that the JL sub will crush the L7's in quality, but how will they compare for loudness. The inside sounds good, as I have 4 MB Quartz 6.5's.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Help me out here.

L7s are notorious to have bad sq. I would ditch them and get a xxx maybe. Thats just me, i am biased toward re. See what others say

One more thing -- I suppose I don't have to limit myself to L7 or W7. Lets say I have like 800 to drop on sub/amp combo... Maybe there is something better out there to suit my needs... Advice???

I think you should try what you have. Just build a nice box for them and you should be alright. that is unless you use them for a while, then they are used.

oh if you have 800 bucks, then there is too much to list out there. that would really get you a nice sub / amp. you can get a RE XXX for 400 + shipping (I think) and a deecent amp for 400ish, you could get away with something cheaper too.

So am I to interpret that one 12" RE XXX would be louder than 2 12"L7 or 1 W7 as well as fairly clear. I know NADA!!!

(I wish I could build a box -- but I failed wood shop in H.S. -- the handyman skills are SLACK)

I would not say that one XXX would be louder than any of those installs. I would GUESS that the 2 L7's would be loudest, then the XXX and W7's would be close. Remember i said GUESS!!

Honestly I would just stick with what you have, try that out. Two 12"L7's should get really friggin loud. I'm sure that a 12/15XXX would also get wicked loud, but you already have the L7's.

I don't even have the stuff yet and I am ready to sell it. I bought it and I am waiting on it. I guess I can raise a little more loot too as I have a W3 in a box with a RF250 and a phoenix gold line driver. Ahhhhh, I don't know....I hate to take everything out of the boxes, hook it all up, and not be getting what I want -- wish I would have thought to come back here to get some insight first...

Well if you don't have it already I really don't know what to say. L7's are good, XXX's are really good but more money. W7's are good but lots of money. All good stuff, do a search on the forum for these subs, lots of threads. You will be able to see what other's think of them.

It will help a lot because they will have had time to play with the subs to give you a good outlook on them.
