More watts, more power?

So your Q is, "With the same setup, will one sub hit harder than the other if it receives more power?"

If this is your question, I think the answer is fairly obvious, don't you?

You must take into account the efficiency of the subs. The sub with 1500 wrms could terribly inefficient while the sub with 1000 is efficient as all get out. So actually the sub with 1000 could be louder. just something to think about.

I think he is looking at it this way. 2 cars exactly the same. Both have the same box with the same sub in it, every thing the same exept the watts. 1 is running 1000watts the other is running 1500watts.

If this is what he is asking i believe the answer is yes 1500 would push harder than 1000. If then sub is built to handle it.

That is also to say if the sub can handle that amount of power without decreasing it's undistorted linear output too much. If a sub is already about to bottom out at 1,000 watts in box X, adding 500w is just going to make it bottom out more often and it will sound like crap. The sub is already reaching its maximum undistorted output level in that box with 1000w. That is the entire reason you don't need to push a sub to its thermal limits in every single box.

The long of the short of it is, as always, it depends. In a sealed box, it is more likely that the woofer can handle the power, but it may also help in a ported box with an extremly long throw woofer too, or one that has a very stiff suspension.

Why do you not create a real life simulation of this.

First you take one six-pack of the 15" 2,000 watt Funky pups.

Then you take one 10" 150 watt eDkx.

Within seconds you will turn off the scrambled static sounding noise that is being emitted from the funky pups, and so you can hear the sweet harmonic vocals of that tiny edkx. so pretty indeed.

I rest my case.

Watts do not matter. Size do not matter. What matters? It doesnt matter, you shouldnt be posting here in the first place, now get me my coffee.

Yes, like saying both can handle 2500 watts but one is pushing 1500 and the other 1000.
yeah...IT'S NOT "PUSHING"!! ok...subs don't "push" watts. Subs can handle a certain amount of power...this is their RMS power handling or the recommended continuous power to give it. So, the sub my be powered by a 1000 watt amp or a 1500 watt amp. AND OBVIOUSLY, if EVERYTHING is the same except for the amount of power...then the sub getting 1500 watts will perform better as long as 1500 is w/ in it's power handling limits. peace

answer is simply yes.. omg didn't think it would take this many people to answer a simple question..how to test this?

well i just upgraded amp..+50-75rms.. .and yes its better and cleaner!

as for the people who are thinking about 2x the subs 2x the box and 2x the car.. ha you are over thinking this=p

o yea... something i just thought of..

the answer is in the VOLUME control //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif :banghead://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif:banghead:

Watts and db are exponential. 10X the watts=+6db= 2x louder. So the difference between 10>100 watts doubles the sound you hear and from 100>1000 watts does the exact same, even though it is 900 watts difference vs 90. Sooo....

Yes, in theory there will be a difference, but not one you are likely to notice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
