A-Pillar Build Pics

Remember above ~2k intensity is more important for the "SQ" than T/A. So precise level-matching via some EQing on the more off axis tweeter (driver's side) could be all you need.

Also, a smaller dome tweeter plays better off axis than a larger one. If you like on-axis tweeter position and sound, consider a ring-radiator like what Vifa makes or their variants. I personally would not put tweeters on-axis at eye level due to visual localization. Plus, you don't need much sound info up there anyway as there's not much above 10k anyway. Bottom line: Stealth FTW.

xt25 ring radiators are very nice tweeters when on-axis as I ran them for a few years.

I just finished up some A pillars last night, but no pics. It's not an SQ set up though as I'm more into an SPL mode right now with comps/meets going on. Bunch of budget Hi-Vi's in an array. At $4 a tweet they sound pretty nice so far and should be better with tuning...

Yes! Great idea. An array is much more "SQ" than what's pictured by the OP with that single compact dome firing at his face IMHO. I'd love to do something like that...or an MTM...across the dash for my car mono project. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I actually liked the TBI's on axis better than I did off axis. That was just a temp setup so I could move the tweeters around easily.

Thanks for all the info everybody. It looks like I might need to sell off the Daytons (which have pretty good reviews) and get something smaller. I'm looking at maybe the Vifa XT25 (small version), Dayton ND28F, Vifa D26NC55, Seas 27TFFNCG, Tangband 25-1166, or Vifa DQ25SC16-04. Those are all pretty much in my budget right now, I just have to see what the response looks like off axis since I'll probably install them that way.

You've been drinking the abmolech Kool-aid I see //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyways, I agree with the plan of ditching the large-format tweeters. For your purposes right now there are better options.

Totes. Gwape is my flavorite.

You know what's in Eldridge's car, right bucko? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyhooters, I haven't gotten my McLaren F1 yet, so me thinks a mono would be a fairly intelligent addition the confines of this noisy, odd shaped, glass wraped room on wheels I call my SQmobile. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

You definitely don't want the xt25 off-axis as output suffers terribly.

Have you read the Zaph reviews? Lots of good info there. Not needing to cross them so low should open up the possibilities...

Well mine is more of an SQL set up leaning towards the SPL side of things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif But I will take the time to dial in/save an SQ setting with the EQ. Interested to see how the stage height, width, and centering ends up...

And I didn't say anything about the array portion of your post, did I ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I've considered toying with an array/mutliple point sources more than once myself (and completely unrelated to abmolech....for example arrays were discussed in detail on DIYMA long before he even joined that site). And I still might try it out if I get bored with the horns I just tossed in my car this week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

good to hear man, its a neat piece

thanks

bondo should hold better than resin, you have to scuff up the plastic and the holes are drilled in the plastic there to give it something to grab on to
That's exactly what I had in mind, but I was hoping for something less permanent. I suppose if it came down to taking the molded pillars out, I could wrap the original pillars.

Try local auto salvage yards. Dealer wanted $48.50 each for sail panels. Got 3 sets at a local yard for $15. A pillars were also $5. Then you can go back to stock when you want to, not that anyone with this sickness will ever do that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

OEM pillars are $45 for mine too which I think I'm stuck with if I fail on my build. Not too many 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitaras around here. There's too many speakers out there, now I'm thinking about trying out some planar tweeters http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-735 they got a really good review on zaphaudio but I'm not sure if they'd be able to handle the power I'd be giving them or if they'd be loud enough for me.
