A few noob questions

It would be appreciate for your answers! (WORDING EDITED)

First off, I have JBL GTO628 2way, JBL GTO938 3-Way (rear), Alpine KTP-445U, and a pioneer DEH-X8600bh.

Now first off I obviously didn't think to far into this so sorry that I am an idiot.

1.) Also the speakers have a 0db and a -3db setting, I wan't to use the setting that uses less power to make more sound efficiently. I have heard 0db is better for the average joe.

2.) For my power pack what should I set my high-pass filter to? If I set my 2ohm speakers at 0db should I set my front and rear high pass filter to 60, 80, 120hz or off? I have heard hz levels can eat up power, which I do not have much of with only 45watt rms. So if any one can tell me what to set my hz to and maybe explain it a little.

3.) Both my speakers and amp can handle 2 and 4 ohms, how do I set this up and which should I run? 2ohms would give more sound? The amp runs 45watt rms at 2 and 4ohms.

Thanks!

1) The tweets, mids, and mid-bass are wired together already with built in passive crossovers, so each speaker-set (2-way or 3-way) has only one set of terminals and presents a single 3-ohm load across all frequencies (approximately) - you should consider each speaker-set as one amp channel. SO, YES - you have 4 speakers and 4 amp channels. Perfect.

2) The dB switch is usually to reduce the amount of power going to the tweeters in case you find the tweeters too harsh. It is a matter of personal taste. BUT you can always adjust the EQ on your head unit to accomplish the same thing. Go ahead and set it to 0dB and you can reduce highs with head unit EQ if you need to later.

3) Do you have a sub woofer? You should match the high-pass crossover frequency on your 4ch amp to the low pass frequency on the sub amp (or HU xovers, whichever you use). 80 Hz is good place to start. If you do not have a sub, then you might want to go lower on the front/rears (60 Hz or Off) but you may not be able to play quite as loud before running into distortion.

4) Forget about "ohms" in your setup. There is nothing for you to do. Each of your speakers (2-way or 3-way set) is wired to be a 3-ohm load and cannot be changed. Your amp can handle a 3 ohm load just fine. Wire each speaker-set to one channel of the amp - there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for the info! I think I will set it to 80hz, I was thinking about getting a cheap Power Acoustik RW1-8 little 8 inch sub (240 watt rms) because I already have an old Boss PH300d (not good quality I know) and wires. For that just rca it, run the to the battery/ground, and do I splice the remote wires together? I have never ran two amps before.

Also weird thing, my volume on my head unit is weird, I have to turn it past max and it keeps getting louder. It isn't very loud until I turn it past max. Issues?

*Any* sub is better than *no* sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, run RCAs from the Sub Preamp outputs on the HU to the sub amp.

Yes, just split the remote turn-on wire and connect it to both amps, and run new power & ground for the new amp.

No idea what is going on with your HU volume control. Maybe your amp gains are set wrong?

Can you explain what you mean when you say you have to "turn it up past max"? How is this possible with a digital volume control?

Not sure exactly, my gains are at 9 oclock (factory recommend) but a car forum (not sales man) said to turn them to 50% gain but I don't want to really mess with gains too much because I have bad luck with amps I guess ha. I have my car apart right now cleaning the carpets, running wires for that little sub, and a few other things so I will have to check it again. I set my high pass to 80hz but haven't tried it yet, maybe even disconnecting the battery (which it has been) will fix that issue. I'll probably post here in a day or so.
