I have a Clarion CZ702, http://www.clarion.com/us/en/MungoBlobs/106/777/CZ702_EN.pdf. If you look at page 9, it shows the settings that are available under the "Adjusting Sound Mode" section.

I've tried the presets, and the best one is Excite, but it's still a bit bassy. It doesn't offer the option to adjust the presets. The only way to customize is with the CUSTOM setting. Problem is, I'm not even sure where to begin with that.

Would anyone have some recommended settings to start with for the G, F, and Q settings for each band?

OP, cant you just set it to "excite" and remember what the levels were at. Then go to custom and set the levels the same, but set the 100hz and under to a lower level?

Turn **** up and down on the eq until you like what you hear.
This

In all honesty, unless you do this you will never really get a feel for what the different frequencies sound like. Start with all settings at 0 or "flat." Then go one by one for each frequency. Have the volume at a decent level, but not too loud when you do this. That way you can go allll the way to plus 12dB or whatever the highest is, and then alllllll the way down. Do that for each frequency to get a feel for what sound each produces. Then set them where you like it. Generally, the highest frequency needs to be below 0, just because its too bright and ear-splitting otherwise. Also, it seems like people like the frequencies that you "feel" rather than hear (150-200Hz and below) to be turned up. If you turn up the frequencies around 400Hz up too much, then the music starts to sound muddy. If you have a subwoofer, then I would suggest that you don't use the EQ for frequencies below 80Hz. Instead, you should use the subwoofer gain setting on th amp, or other subwoofer-specific setting in the audio menus of the head unit.

True! I just wish they would allow you to modify the custom presets. As I said, I like the Excite preset, but there's just a bit too much bass. I wonder if Clarion support would be able to tell me what each preset's settings are?

Worth a try I suppose. Seems like big companies almost never email me back when I ask questions. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

For excite or punch or vivid ect. Pre settings Ive seen on some head units try this to replicate it with a little less bass.

Bass +2, mid -2, treble +3. Just a guess but try it out.

I tried calling them today. They only give you options to locate dealers, parts centers, and warranty repair.

The unit has a 5 band EQ with selectable frequencies and widths.

Just go out in your car forabout 20 minutes and experiement. For real, since I can't hear it and don't know exactly what you'd like It to sound like I can't really help you fully. It'd be like me shopping for some shoes, and asking you which pair would feel the best on my feet. I would try them things on until I came to a decision.

The only thing I could guess on to replicate the "excite" setting, I believe this may be what your going for.

60hz and under +2. 2k-3.5k Hz -2. 8k Hz and up +3. Just a guess though.
